One annoying bug I've yet to solve is the drunken huntsman, the hunting store across from the blacksmiths at the entrance to Whiterun.  That place seems to think I'm "not supposed to be here", with the owner constantly telling me to leave or he will call the guards.  Don't know what has caused this.  Its annoying because 3DNPC's has a follower you can grab from there, and if you are playing a hunter, it sucks because you loose a good place to buy bows and stuff.

I think this is because you removed AI Overhaul as a master for the OCS patch, but your patch was still trying to contain a reference from it so the lock list (among other things for the drunken huntsman) is an error... which means, I guess, that he doesn't know who to trust? There is also an error in the test merged patch with the necromancer faction.

I'd wager it's the STEP instructions for Birds and Flocks: https://wiki.step-project.com/Birds_and_Flocks#Recommendations

 

 

Notice: DynDOLOD will not run with this mod active. STEP recommends leaving it inactive until DynDOLOD is ran at the Patch section of the Guide.

Thanks, but it's not Birds.  The new version of DynDOLOD warns you if you have this esp loaded.  It's looks like a bug with the new version:

which the authors are saying will be fixed in the next version.  I first got stuck using version 2.10.  Also, just tried 2.11 which was released 2 days ago but it still failed.  I can only get this step to work if I exclude the Wyrmstooth, Falskaar, and FalmerValley worlds.

 

Authors say you can do a 3rd pass afterwards using the dyndolod.esp generated and including the other worlds.  Haven't tried that yet.

I was able to get past the DynDOLOD Open Cities process by doing the following (as advised on DynDOLOD thread):

 

1. Generate static/tree LOD for Tamriel without Open Cities, move output to mod

2. Generate dynamic LOD for Tamriel with Open Cities, merge output to mod

3. Generate static/tree/dynamic for all other worldspaces but not for Tamriel, merge output to  mod

 

I don't know if their next release will fix this issue or if this will be the new process.

 

Another question I have...should I be running all the patching steps with Helgen Reborn unchecked in MO?  I left it on but now I can't uncheck it to start my game without also unchecking the Dual Sheath Redux Patch because it's a considered a master.  I also don't know if this effects the other patching steps like DynDOLOD or the Reqtificator.

Thanks for the note of the mistakes in the patch, I'll look into those when I get a chance

 

 

DynDOLOD has probably been updated, I"ll have to look at the new process for patching.  

 

 

For Helgen Reborn, basically, with my set up, you can't do the vanilla start (wagon ride to Helgen), and you MUST NOT read the Helgen book until you have visited Helgen and done the initial few quests afterwards, (and had several days pass).  The Helgen book is the quest trigger, and you botch your game if you read the book before certain things have happened. 

Otherwise, the Helgen Reborn esp's should be enabled while patching.  Since I always use Alternate start for the game (and have not touched the vanilla start with wagon ride for a long time) I didn't consider the fact other people may want to start at Helgen.  

 

The closest Helgen start you can get right now is do the "Camping in the Woods" start, which puts you just outside of Helgen.  You miss the starting story line, but you at least get right back on the quest line and you can loot Helgen for all its worth.   After that game is like usual.

Thank you thank you thank you so much for your work on this, Moal! This has been my "vacation of modding Skyrim," and after I got STEP Extended up and running well, I jumped into this -- I'd love to see Requiem working with all those lovely textures et al from STEP.

 

I've hit a roadblock with DynDOLOD, however. My problem is very similar to A_Simple_Farmer above; DynDOLOD.exe gets stuck generating static/tree LODs at Falskaar or Falmer Valley. I tried the stepped method he suggested as an alternative, and I can get through the first two steps, but it chokes on the third:

 

- Generate static/tree LOD for just Tamriel without Open Cities, did not save ESP, saved output as mod - successful
- Generate dynamic LOD for just Tamriel with Open Cities, saved ESP, merged with existing mod - successful
- Generate static/tree for all other worldspaces (with OCS? I'm not sure if this is right) -- it freezes up just after generating the texture atlas for Falskaar, on "Adding Farmhouse Chimneys.esp as master."

 

I just downloaded DynDOLOD this week and I'm running v. 2.11, which as far as I can tell is the latest version. I also ran the STEP DynDOLOD process without any problems. (But, of course, no OCS).

 

I'll continue to poke through the DynDOLOD thread, but any suggestions? Specifically, should I in fact still have all the OCS mods checked when I try step #3?

 

Also, I have a bunch of comments on parts of the instructions I found confusing/wasn't sure I did right/seem inconsistent. Would you find that valuable information to have, Moal?

Hi, I'm going through the guide, and ran into some things I'm not clear on. Going through the load order, I notice that some ESP's from the DynDOLOD Resources mod aren't listed in the load order (I've been going through it carefully to make sure my load order matches it. DynDOLOD Resources adds DesyncBirdsOfPrey.esp, SolitudeExterior.esp, and WhiterunExterior.esp (also HighHrothgarWindowGlow.esp if you check it, which the STEP guide doesn't have you do). I'm not sure if I'm not supposed to use those, or if it matters where they go? I'm not using LOOT to sort the load order at this point because I'm past installing Requiem, so I'm a bit stuck here.

 

Also, OCS - SkyrimSewers.esp doesn't show up, and EmbersHD.esp.

 

Another question too - I'm not able to find NoAnimalsReportCrimes-DG+DB.esp, NoAnimalsReportCrimes-DG+DB+Falskaar.esp, and NoAnimalsReportCrimes-DG+DB+Requiem.esp. Instead I have NARC.esp, NARC-FalskaarConsistencyPatch.esp, and NARC-RequiemConsistencyPatch.esp. I'm assuming they are the same only with different names, so I have placed them in the order the former I listed, but I wanted to make sure that is correct.

 

Sorry for the all the questions, I'm new to this and have found the STEP guides and your pack guide very helpful.

Er, and when I say DynDOLOD v2.11 above, clearly I mean 2.12. They were confusingly named on the Nexus, which I guess Sheson just fixed.

 

So I guess I kind of have to have OCS+dependencies enabled for step #3, as the generated DynDOLOD.esp from step #2 has OCS as a master.

As an update, I was finally able to get DynDOLOD to complete, but I had to do it as a 4-step process:

 

- Generate static/tree LOD for just Tamriel without Open Cities enabled, did not save ESP, saved output as mod - successful
- Generate dynamic LOD for just Tamriel with OCS, saved ESP, merged with existing mod - successful
- Enabled previous DynDOLOD.esp; Generate static/tree/dynamic LOD for all other worldspaces except Falskaar (OCS mods enabled, as they are now masters) - overwrite existing mod files with saved output - successful
- Generate static/tree/dynamic LOD for Falskaar only (OCS mods enabled) - overwrite existing mod files with saved output - successful
 
So, I hope this works? I'm assuming that the last .esp is the one I want to keep, as it should incorporate everything from the previous when I run DynDOLOD again... right? That was what Sheson seemed to imply.
 
After that I ran the Reqtificator and Real Shelter, and I'm going to finally start the game... fingers crossed.

Hi, I'm going through the guide, and ran into some things I'm not clear on. Going through the load order, I notice that some ESP's from the DynDOLOD Resources mod aren't listed in the load order (I've been going through it carefully to make sure my load order matches it. DynDOLOD Resources adds DesyncBirdsOfPrey.esp, SolitudeExterior.esp, and WhiterunExterior.esp (also HighHrothgarWindowGlow.esp if you check it, which the STEP guide doesn't have you do). I'm not sure if I'm not supposed to use those, or if it matters where they go? I'm not using LOOT to sort the load order at this point because I'm past installing Requiem, so I'm a bit stuck here.

Also, OCS - SkyrimSewers.esp doesn't show up, and EmbersHD.esp.

Another question too - I'm not able to find NoAnimalsReportCrimes-DG+DB.esp, NoAnimalsReportCrimes-DG+DB+Falskaar.esp, and NoAnimalsReportCrimes-DG+DB+Requiem.esp. Instead I have NARC.esp, NARC-FalskaarConsistencyPatch.esp, and NARC-RequiemConsistencyPatch.esp. I'm assuming they are the same only with different names, so I have placed them in the order the former I listed, but I wanted to make sure that is correct.

I think I found the problem with not finding the NARC esp's I'm missing. I know I have to make a merged patch for Falskaar and Requiem, but 0 NARC - Dawnguard and Dragonborn and Requiem and
0 NARC - Dawnguard and Dragonborn and Falskaar have been removed from the Narc webpage. So I think I am using the wrong mods for them, but I'm not sure which ones to use, and whether I need to use the consistency patches.

Another detail - I had forgotten that I also used the new Fomod installer for NARC, which wasn't used in the main STEP guide. This just basically lets you install one of the main files and the consistency patches as one mod. You can only choose one core/main esp though, so you can't choose both the Requiem and Falskaar main files.

This is why I must read the mod description page. I have to make a merged plugin for the Falskaar and Requiem cores after installing all the mods. And as far as the 0 NARC - Dawnguard and Dragonborn and Requiem and 0 NARC - Dawnguard and Dragonborn and Falskaar patches, I think they are the same thing as the consistency patches, so I will use those.

 

As for the esp's that are not listed, I will let LOOT sort those, and then I will manually place everything else around them according to your load order, unless someone tells me otherwise.

I have this running now -- so far, so good! Some notes on bugs, etc, below.

 

I have two profiles set up:

- STEP E+KS, minus a few optional mods (spinning Skyrim logo? Really? And I left out Forgotten Magic Redone; it just wasn't right for the game I wanted). 

- STEP E+KS + a few mods I couldn't live without. (Dynamic Things, Living Takes Time, Simply Knock, Cloaks of Skyrim, Minor Arcana, VioLens, and probably more I'm forgetting)

 

I have to run the Reqtificator when switching profiles, but oh well -- doesn't seem to be a good way around that. (MO insists on putting the newly-generated ESP back in the original mod, not overwrite).

 

I started with my "enhanced" profile. I made a random character, and decided to start with LAL's "attacked and left for death" scenario.

 

Which dropped me on Solstheim, I realized, as soon as I opened and saw the ash plume of Red Mountain. Then I heard the combat music, and knew I was ****ed, because I have the Dragonborn Reqtified patch and I'm a level 1 character, some place I shouldn't be.

 

Well, that's okay, because the game CTD'ed right then. I don't even know where on Solstheim it dropped me or what I was fighting, I was still doing the whole "waking up from unconsciousness" animation.

 

So! Starting again (from my LAL prison cell save), I chose to start as a member of the Companions. It dropped me right in Jorrvaskr, in the middle of Njada and Athis' brawl. Which went on so long that I was beginning to be afraid something was bugged, but eventually ended. I had the quest to spar with Vilkas in my quest log, so when I was ready (after setting up SO MANY MCM MENUS), I went out to spar with him. 

 

And then it bugged out. Hard. The sparring changed to real fighting at some point (brawl bugs? I've seen this happen before with ESF Companions and sparring); other Companions were running away and calling for help. And then suddenly I couldn't damage Vilkas at all. I put my weapon away, in case that would help, and he said, "I think you've had enough." But after that I couldn't interact with him at all, and I couldn't advance the quest. He's still standing in the Jorrvaskr yard in combat stance, responsive to nothing -- I ended up having to advance the quest with the console.

 

I tried so many things to reset Vilkas -- I tried disable/enable, tried using Nausicaa's Tweaker to send him back to his start location (he just comes running back), tried to send him to a quest stage (seems to only work on players?)... nothing. I haven't tried killing him via the console yet, but that's the next step if this weirdness persists.

 

Better yet, iNeed thinks he's my follower, and I get messages like "Vilkas grumbles about the lack of drinks!" 

 

I've had less trouble with my straight-up E+KS profile (surprising no one). I decided to do the "start as a member of the College of Winterhold" scenario.

 

This LAL scenario interacts... interestingly with College Days and College of Winterhold Entry requirements. Basically, since it drops you in the College courtyard right before talking to Colette Mirance, it bypasses those quests. I assume that if you were to come up from the town instead, you'd get stopped by Faralda if you didn't meet the requirements (which I didn't, with the default settings), and then stopped by Jordan at the gate. But instead Jordan just hangs around in the courtyard occasionally hassling me for money if I get too close. I've RPed it as "my contacts back in Alinor were supposed to have paid for my first year's tuition; why hasn't anyone informed this guy??"

 

I will say, I LOVE what Immersive College of Winterhold has added to the game. It's great with Requiem, too, because all the items you can read to gain experience get you past those first awkward levels of playing a mage. I gained about five levels just from exploring and reading the plaques. Maybe some people would think that was cheesy, I dunno, but for me it worked well in a "here is all the theoretical stuff you have to learn before gaining real-world experience."

 

Also, Death Alternative is great, and really adds to the immersion for me, honestly. I love that it allows death to have consequences without being an obnoxious "reload a save" scenario. 

 

Oh, also, I'm loving Take Notes! but it took me a while to figure out why it so often slowed my FPS to a crawl. Yeah... that ENB Brute Force mode thing you mentioned, Moal, whenever I type a capital "B." I commented it out in enblocal.ini (because why would I ever use it??); we'll see if that helps or if I need to remap it.

 

I wasn't sold on Open Cities at first, but my god, the view from Whiterun with Open Cities plus DynDOLOD plus ENB and lighting mods makes it all worth it. 

 

I planned for this just to be my test build, but I'm having such a great time with these mods. And I played the "pure" profile for hours -- most of last night! -- with only a single CTD, which was the one on Solstheim.

 

I do have some questions about the load order of lighting mods, but I've already typed so much that that can wait. Suffice it to say, I'll be continuing and providing feedback.

One observation, not really a bug: Interesting NPCs is not really balanced with Requiem. In my custom playthrough, I've picked up a follower, Gorr, who can basically one-shot all my enemies, and I'm at level 5. Bandit hideouts should be hard for me to take on at this level with Requiem, but I just send him in and he obliterates them. Checking out his stats through EFF, it looks like he has 96 in Two-Handed and Heavy Armor, which is probably why. I wish there were a way to tone him down, or at least make him harder to acquire -- I basically just talked to him in Riverwood and that was it. 

 

Also some of the 3DNPCs are interesting, and some are just... creepy and inappropriate.

Just in general for everyone's info: if you have not installed meh321's bug fixes to fix the doubled perks on reload bug (as advised by the Requiem folks) you should go do so. I used to think Requiem had made vampires immortal, but it turns out they are just quasi-immortal.

Thanks, this is what worked for me for DynDOLOD 1.14.

If you install Requiem - Minor Arcana (most of which should be incorporated in the next version of Requiem, the guy is on the Requiem team) it'll tone down the classes. Specifically for the CombatWarrior2H that Gorr has, two handed will be 2/3 as high, heavy armor will be 2/3 as high, health will be 1/4 and stamina will be 1/2. There are several things going on there, the class as well as the perk added by Requiem, so I can't promise those numbers will be the final result. In fact I wouldn't think the numbers result as high as you have them, it looks like things are getting applied twice on reload (his base 2H is 15, which should be getting multiplied by 4 for a final result of 60) though I didn't think the class buffs themselves got applied twice and I think the Requiem perk only adds damage, not ability. Do you have meh321's bug fixes installed to fix the reload perks bug Requiem is warning everyone about? Regardless, Requiem Minor Arcana should tone him down some.

 

I usually play with Interesting NPCs (as you can tell by the fact that one of my patches for it is in this mod pack) but I had decided to play without it this time through (until I discovered Kitchen Sink and figured I should just let it be).

 

My approach last game was the second someone starts babbling on for 10 seconds about something totally random I exit the conversation and check with the console that they're from 3DNPC.esp (I use MFGconsole). I can pretty much always spot them, they all sound like they've been smoking Colorado-grade pot laced with amphetamines. So I just walk away and pretend they're from Inconsequential NPCs, whose personalities I generally prefer.

 

Inconsequential NPC: "Go away." 

Me: "Thank you for not wasting my time."
