An inquisitive puppy's questions regarding FNVLODGen

Recommended Posts

Hello, this is my secont post on this wonderful forum!

I have a few issues regarding FNVLODGen, and because of this I've avoided using it in my previous playthroughs of FNV. For the purposes of demonstration, I have included two screenshots:

I've used FNVLODGen in the first screenshot but not in the second. An observative puppy will notice that the Goodsprings schoolhouse, Victors shack, a couple of bungalows and a caravan are missing from the first screenie. I've also noticed less detail around Goodsprings when I've activated my 'Fear and Loathing LOD'. Since FNVLODGen is supposed to add detail at a distance, why is this the case? Has anybody else encountered this oddity? I've been through the 'Running FNVLODGen' section of the guide several times in the past, and redone it just recently, each time following the instructions to the letter. Is there something I've missed?

A few other questions:

- after generating the LOD, where should it go in the left pane of MO? (I've always left it at the bottom).

- Does it matter if I leave the 'FNVLODGen Resources' and 'LOD additions and improvements' activated in MO?

Thankyou for reading! I would've used spoilers for the images but I don't know how to :(

You are misinformed, FNVLODGen doesn't add detail at a distance. It scans all loaded plugins, finds objects that have available LOD meshes and generate LOD from all of them. If at the time of generation some LOD models are not accessible, there will be less details. If you install mods that add new LOD meshes, there will be more details.

If you got less detail, this means those meshes were not accessible to FNVLODGen when it tried to generate LODs or you have mods installed that make those objects dynamic (parent enable state). Read comments https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58562 I described how to check the existance of "missing" LOD meshes.
