Mature Skin Texture and Body .. CTD

Recommended Posts

After much trial and crash .. I found that "Mature Skin Texture and Body" tips the scales and game becomes unstable.  Very predictably crashes in middle of wagon ride open sequence (after selecting Vanilla start from "Alternate Start - Live Another Life").

I've tried removing all mods that come after it and it many other combinations of mods.  I'm sure its "Mature Skin" causing the issue.

I've tried increasing and decreasing VideoMemorySizeMb .. 128, 256 and 512.

I've tried reinstalling and freeing disk space.

I'm running 4065x800 resolution in Nvidia surround on 2gb EVGA 680 Hydro Copper.  God I can't wait till Pascal is out.

I'm getting just under 30 FPS and 99% GPU usage.  And dedicate video memory seems capped at about 1980 mb.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

VideoMemorySizeMb SHOULDN'T be increased by 128, 256, 512 etc it should be done by using this calculation and it doesn't change

ReservedMemorySizeMb is increased if stuttering appears in game.

also install Memory Block Log and check if it does not fill up when you CTD

My bad.  I think meant ReservedMemorySizeMb.  I did use Boris's tool to calculate the other and got a bit less than 4000 (I only have 6GB system ram at the moment, win7 , 2GB vram).

I'll check out Memory Block Log.  I didn't do that this time.  Very likely running out, but thought that was fixed with the memory patch thing.  Will post back with results ...

Yes, but the amount of memory allocated to first block varies based on a variety of factors and you may need more than the recommended setting if you use higher-resolution meshes/textures, you add additional NPCs or creatures to the game, and so forth. You may also need more if you use gargantuan screen resolutions, although that screen resolution on a 2GB 680 may tipping over the iceberg in terms of max VRAM. I mean that's a lot of screen real estate for a little 680.

Little 680?  Seems a bit personal.  Have you seen my big screens?

Memory blocks log reports 512 for first, 256 for second .. but always CTD's at 252 or 253 from my tests so far.  Can't really go outside anywhere.  Okay indoors or underground.  Now what?

I tried lowering the resolution again to 3252x768 .. and starting in Windhelm .. for a second thought it was going to work then CTD as before.  Log got up to 256 though.  Coincidence?  Probably not but I already have set DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768 in SKSE.ini and log says 512 for block 1 as it should.

Little 680?  Seems a bit personal.  Have you seen my big screens?

Memory blocks log reports 512 for first, 256 for second .. but always CTD's at 252 or 253 from my tests so far.  Can't really go outside anywhere.  Okay indoors or underground.  Now what?

He said that your video card may not handle all those textures especially since all of them are 2k and even 4k textures. Maybe your vram is reahing it's limit since you use a high resolution. Try 1k textures especially for landscapes and see if that works.

Link to comment

I reduced the resolution to 1280x800 ..  still can't go outdoors.  Worse removing "Mature Skin Texture and Body" (MSTB) no longer fixes the problem.  Going back to triple screen (low resolution) which was working without MSTB no longer works!?

I suppose, it could too large of textures but tend to doubt it.   AIDA64 is reporting (on my LCD keyboard) dedicated vram at about 1300 when at 1280x800.  When at 3252x768 or higher it caps at nearly 2000 (which is all of a 2gb card).  Depressing.  MSTB might not be the problem after all.

Link to comment

I was able to get things to work but not entirely.  I tried 1K textures on 6 mods (a couple outdoors) including MSTB itself.  It worked but only after removing MSTB again.  All this at 1280x800 pixels.  And this was not as consistent.

So now I am going 1k on everything I can to see if that works.  I know a 680 is "little" .. but it's no slouch either.  "Any" card should handle 1280x800.  Nvidia drivers are up to date .. which I suppose could be something to explore.  Try older / settings / etc.

Link to comment

It's not only the resolution that matters but also the amount of textures that the GPU has to handle at once. So reducing the texture resolution may help by installing 1k where you can.

snf ofcourse that your character resolution will be the hardest hit on GPU because that's the one you always see and GPU has to handle

Of course running 3 monitors demands a lot of resources!  But to eliminate that probable cause I reduced resolution to minimum 1280x800 which displays only on center screen.  4065x800 expands to triple (with bezel) .  That's quite a bit more than 1920x1080 but its still less than my native resolution of 2560x1600 on one monitor.  (About 3/4 native on one).  It's beginning to look like SRLE won't run as specified on a 2GB card at even "standard" setups.

My goal now is get it to run at low resolution and textures.  If i can't then something else must be going on.

Does reducing resolution make up for texture size? Because if it doesn't, then you'll need more than 2gb vram to run 2k or higher throughout.

Indeed you do, I´ve opted for 1k or 1-2k at every opportunity in the guide, and even DDSOpted some texture mods to reduce texture size, and I still get close to the 2048mb of my geforce 960 2gb. I check my vram with afterburner.
