Change name of esp Masterfile

MKeener

Question

I have 2 mods that require the same master file (esp) to have different names.

How: I downloaded mod A (ETaC) which has a patch to help it work with mod B (NSUTR). Mod B was earlier Merged, which caused the output esp file to have a different name. Afterwards, many hours were spent creating a conflict resolution file, reliant on the new merged mod B. Now both mod A and my conflict resolution relies on mod B, but neither will work at the same time as each requires mod B's esp file to have a different name....

I need to change either mod A or the conflict resolution so that they both use the same masterfile esp name. How can I do this?

For me I will enable the required master first then open up xEdit and I'll change the master file name to the one you wanted.

That's what I do if a merged mod which is required to be master of something. But usually master dependent mods shouldn't be merged unless the mod that requires the master merged as well.

I hope it makes sense.

Load Wrye Bash with your ETAC patch then click on it and select File->Create dummy esps (this will create fake esps for what you are missing and place them into the overwrite folder... because you dont have the master file that the ETAC patch requires).

Load TES5edit with the ETAC patch selected and wait until background loader has finished.

Then click the + in front of the ETAC patch click on "File Header". On the right panel search for the master esp you want to rename and right click and then "Edit". Rename it to the file name in the CR (the Nsutr merge) and OK. Then Save your file. Now you should have the same name for both esps as master

Guys a piece of advise (although it has been mentioned quite a few time in this forum)...

DO NOT merge plugins that are required as Masters to other plugins. Bad, bad things can happen!

Most obvious one is unresolved references if FormIDs has been renumbered.

There is an exception to that (not 100% foolproof - still needs investigation in xEdit)...you can merge master files with their own patches but you need to maintain the same filename of the master esp.
