Skyrim Special Edition

With the news about the SkyrimSE, what will become of the STEP project?

We will not need most of the textures mods and SKSE anymore right?

So maybe users can focus on gameplay, new locations and other new content mods with this new base game right?

Any other info you guys have to add will be apreciated also.

SKSE will definitely still be needed. There's a lot of mods that rely on it, and I don't see Bethesda adding in everything those mods need. Of course, it'll take a while for a version of SKSE to come out for it, but I think that it largely depends on how much of a difference there is between the Special Edition and Skyrim/Fallout 4.

It's a bit hard to say what will happen with texture mods and such until the Special Edition actually comes out and people can look at the files, but I wouldn't be surprised if custom textures and meshes still end up being better than Bethesda's.

This thread goes over a lot of the information, including what might happen with STEP. The short answer, though, is that we're just going to have to wait and see how the Special Edition works with mods before anyone knows for sure.

As far as STEP,

There will likely be a STEP:SE version eventually, if all is well with the mods converting. Supposedly, it'll be as easy as loading the mod up into the new CK and re-saving it. As you might imagine, the modding community is skeptical of it being that simple. Even if it is, mod that require SKSE will take a while to be converted, if they even are. Those mods will take actual fingers to keyboard work to get them working in the new version of the game.

So yes, it's very much a "wait and see" kind of thing right now. However, if things go well, there's very likely to be a STEP:SE version. Whether or not we'll only support the SSE version, is not likely to happen until all the mods in STEP (or 90% or so) have been converted by their authors.
