Step with a few additional Mods weird CTDS

KappaSquared

Question

So yeah. Ive been starting to try my luck with modding since I wanted to play through Skyrim again with my new Rig.

It has got an i7 6700k and gtx 1080. So I just did a little bit of the STEP guide whenever I wanted.

Now I'm done and I get all kinds of CTDs. First of all the Game is always starting up to the Starting Screen.

I tried to load some save games off of Nexus, that were meant to test out your build. But they immediatly CTD

So I just started a new game, since I thought that would solve the issue. And it worked. But as soon as I went outside of my room and got killed it crashed, while loading the save game.

Then it went worse and worse. Now it is down to it doesnt even load a new game. When I'm lucky I get to see the loading screen.

And in the papyrus log file it almost always shows something different. I think this is partially depending on where I start my game (I installed Alternate Start).

This is my mods list: https://www.modwat.ch/u/KappaSquared.

Here is an example for a papyrus log: https://pastebin.com/nXnST7Hm

There seem to be some similarities between them, but generally they are pretty different. Maybe you can spot a mistake that I cant see?

I just dont want to install everything again its just too frustrating. You have to do so many things and you also have to learn a lot of things.

I  hope you can understand my frustration. I just want to play a game I like that will make use of my Pc rig and I cant get it to work and its confusing.

Thanks.

I don't recommend downloading any save games onto your computer regardless of source. STEP recommends a new game for first builds.

First, run a malware scan just to be safe. If you're unsure on how to do this I recommend you download and install SUPERAntiSpyware (the page looks sketchy but it's legitimate). Some recommend MalwareBytes, in the end they're about the same, but as a tech I've always used SUPERAntiSpyware. Whichever you choose, don't buy it. Just download it, install it, run it, uninstall it. Next, make sure your antivirus isn't blocking any of the processes (like enbhost.exe, tesv.exe, ect) and then make sure it's not blocking any of the DLL files (d3d9.dll, skse_steam_loader.dll, ect).

Now, turn off papyrus logging. It's eats a lot of disk I/O. It's not useful unless your troubleshooting scripts and most of the message are only helpful to the script authors.

Now close MO and then download and run BethINI. Select your profile for MO. Once the main menu opens, select the "Default" preset and then select the "High" preset. At this time, don't change anything other than making sure "Grass Diversity" on the "Foliage" tab is set to "7".

This gets the basics out of the the way so try your game to see if there is any improvement.

Ok so I used MalwareBytes and nothing was found. Then I made an exception in my AntiVirus for my whole Skyrim folder.

I turned off Papyrus and I used BethINI. It didnt seem to help I still cant get ingame. I tried starting a new game and loading a save game.

Ok here is the enblocal file : https://pastebin.com/RdBUjmMv

So I tried to play the game again and what I found was that I was able to play when I was in Skyrim open world. But as soon as I started to go into like a city (For example you can start in BreezeHome) it crashes.

It also crashed on me like 2 minutes after I was in the open world. At the one start there were also npcs around, so if it is npc related its specific ones, not all of them.

Did you run LOOT?

You have a lot of mods that I'm unfamiliar with. I would suggest you opening xEdit and check for issues in your load order. It's quite possible you may need to make a custom patch for your install.

I'm moving this support to a more appropriate support forum so that it may receive some more attention as this really isn't an issue with STEP.

So if LOOT doesnt show me any conflicts does that mean that I dont have to do anything in xEdit or do I have to search for them in some way?

I didnt recognize the problem, because I know it as TES5Edit, but I cleaned the official dlcs with it and 2 other mods.

If you don't know what you're doing, you probably should be doing it, but there's no other way to learn.  :^_^:

When you open xEdit and load all your plugins, you can right-click on a plugin and choose "Apply Filter for conflict Losers". This will show you what records are conflicting with one another. This is where the advanced part comes into play, because some conflicts are desired and others are not. Knowing the difference takes time and effort. Those that are not desired should be forwarded into a custom patch. You can do this by right-clicking a record and choosing "Copy as Override into...". Then scroll down to the bottom and select "". Give it a name and you're done. Copy all undesired conflicts into this new plugin. This means you'll "Copy as override into..." and then select the plugin that you created for all other records being forwarded.

This is really not something that noobies jump into, but if you're willing to learn it's how you're going to get a custom setup that is actually conflict free and stable.

Ok so I did this. Started TES5Edit. Then selected OK because all of my plugins are activated by default. Then I went onto a plugin and applied the filter for conflict losers.

Then almost everything was either orange/red or red. From the forum page you posted above I took that the orange/red ones can often be not bad. But the red ones are bad for sure ( I think).

But when I expand a path of a plugin with the red type color in the section below there is no red files anymore just orange/reds.

And also when I look at how many conflicts there are it would take a lot of time and knowledge.

I just tried to rebuild my bashed patch and when I wanted to do so it stated that there was a "Delinquent Master Error": STEP:Core Patch.

I think this might have something to do with the load order of my plugins. Idk how good LOOT is but in the STEP guide it is noted that you should change the LOOT Meta Rule Instructions.

But to be honest it is really poorly explained. I dont know what to do exactly and I might have made a mistake there. I am not sure though.

Red ones are not necessarily bad, but you're right. Doing a custom patch does take time and knowledge of what you're doing. You have to know which record from which mod should be winning the conflicts. This can only be done by understanding what the conflicting mods are trying to do and what the end result is suppose to be. Like I said, this is an advanced modding topic. No one can really walk you through it. The best we can do is provide you the general information and from that you'll have to learn and figure things out.

I don't know about the "Delinquent Master Error" is until you're missing some masters that is required for the STEP Core Patch plugin. Hover over the plugin in MO (right pane) and see if it says it has missing masters.

Here are some help videos I looked up:

Those authors/modders in the videos above are top notch. Hopefully they'll get you started.
