I just returned from my holidays today and as you can imagine there are a lot of threads to go through, a lot has happened apparently. Anyway I started making my way through them and noticed that some threads seemed to take me to a page that was not the latest one I had read, many of them were from as early as January this year but most only a few months back.

Often I would find myself five or six pages back in history even when the topic has had only one or two new posts!

Is there an odd issue with the way the forum software keeps track of these things? I'm assuming cookies are involved but I have no idea why the dates on some topics get so messed up.

I'm not too concerned with it but it strikes me as odd.

This happens to me on occasion and I think it's primarily on the big threads. I click "Go to first unread post" and it takes me to a seemingly random page from several months ago with the "Go to first unread post" link still visible. Go to the top of the page and click it again and it goes a bit further into the history. I don't remember clicking it more than two or three times to see what happens. I usually just go to the last page and backtrack through previous pages to find unread posts.

You might also keep an eye on the posts when it takes you to the first post on the last page. When it does this, it may have skipped new posts on the previous page.
