[Split] RCRN Question - [SOLVED]

Snozy

Question

Thanks. They all work so far ;)

I'm really loving the pitch dark nights with RCRN! It's darker than the in-game screens on the mod page. It probably has to do with the Climates of Tamriel mod. I used the Darkest option for CoT. I didn't get any Incompatibilities in NMM so I assume it's fine...

Edit: I just read on the CoT page that the RCRN mod is incompatable with CoT... That sucks because I'm currently using both mods and I haven't noticed anything wrong yet! What would you advise me to do? I love the Lighting in RCRN, but I also love the weather effects by CoT... Which should I choose? I'm looking through the comments page now to see what kind of problems these mods together create. I'll post them if you'd like to know.

They conflict because they do the exact same thing. If you load CoT after RCRN, many of RCRN's modifications will get overwritten. If you load RCRN after CoT the opposite will happen. There's no point in using both of them.

They conflict mainly due to their weather changes. CoT by itself doesn't do much for lighting. RCRN adjusts default lighting as well as weathers (they're not as dramatic as CoT). You can't use both. If you like RCRN, I'd recommend uninstalling CoT. I used CoT for a good while too...until I discovered RCRN and I haven't looked back.

Thanks to the both of you, RNRC it is!

Edit: Does the RNRC Customizer make changes to the data files, because I manually installed the mod using NMM to install the archived data files? The main folder files I just drag and dropped.

Also if you would kindly let me know what are the best options when using the Customizer, because I don't know what the options mean when looking at the picture on the mod page. Thanks a million ;)

Its best to check that yourself, its very easy to just change settings, load game look around, quit change settings reload etc :) It won't do any harm to your game afaik.

First, I'd recommend you dropping NMM and start using Wrye Bash. NMM will no longer be supported in the upcoming version of STEP.

I've never used the Customizer; however, here is a breakdown of the settings:

Presets selector: This will switch between the Legacy, Classic, and Pure night presets.

FXAA Antialiasing: This will switch the custom FXAA Injector on and off. FXAA is a form of post-processing antialiasing. FXAA isn't as good as SMAA or regular AA but it's light on resources and almost no performance loss. In essence, this reducing the jagged outline edges.

Sharpening: This turns sharpening on and off. This has to do with the HDR technology in RCRN. I'm not too familiar with it.

Volumetric Fog: This switches the volumetric fog off, subtle, or heavy. Volumetric Fog adds density to the fog in Skyrim; making it feel denser, thicker, and heavier. I'd suggest using Subtle less you have a good system. Heavy will bog an average system down in the Riften area.

Thanks, I'll look into getting Wrye Bash. I have so many mods now, I gotta be in a good mood and have a whole day to myself to make the switch.

I uninstalled CoT and now my pitch dark nights are gone with it. I got rid of both mods, booted up the game and everything is normal, then this time I reinstalled RCRN using the auto-installer. I went with the Pure Preset but that didn't help bring back my pitch dark nights. So I brought my brightness down to zero and still not enough. Oh well... :(

Are you using an ENB? I use SkyRealism with the Cinematic preset. My nights aren't "pitch black" but they are pretty dark. Dark enough you have to have a lantern or torch or get around; running around without one or the other will get you lost. :P

Thanks! I'll grab that one really quick. I'm never used an ENB before, so wish me luck :D

Edit: I couldn't find the ENB Series mod on the Nexus safe haven. Can I grab it from here?

Yes, that's where you have to get it from. ;)

https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENB (I'm currently updating it but it's still good for use!)

RCRN works good with ENB and Enhanced Lightning and FX?

I also using the Cinematic preset from Skyrealism ENB with RLwC, do recommend since it comes with lots of presets to try and a manual of what each option on the files do, so you can tweak it or create yours (I'm a noob at this, so use I presets).

RCRN works with just about any ENB very well. I don't know about Enhanced Lighting though. I have not tested it.

@Admin

These last several post have gotten off topic for this thread. Feel free to move them.

RCRN plus is ridiculously beautiful, but it has a few things that are downright weird.  The sunglare and enormous sun in the sky is great for the lighting (it makes everything so crisp -- perhaps a little too crisp), but is totally distracting when you actually look up.

I had issues with black colored smoke (should be fog-white), black colored "snow wind" while up on a mountain (should be white), and performance hits (probably was the SMAA). Other than that it was great, but because of those issues I had to got back to regular RCRN.

Yea RCRN plus definitely has some black smoke which is a little annoying, but my fps hit was on the order of 3 or 4 fps which is trivial.  Especially since I found ENB redundant with RCRN plus (and most ENBs are ~10 fps hits for me).

I tried tweaking the sun rays and bloom in the .ini settings but I found a rather annoying trade off between the quality of the image and the size of the sun.

So yea I went back to regular RCRN with fxaa (Still haven't tested ENBs with vanilla rcrn).
