GTX 580 1.5GB Vram issue (stuttering) - [SOLVED]

redbananaz

Question

I'm gonna start of with saying that i'm no expert at computer stuff, so if i say anything retarded, don't blame me :)

Well, lets get to it. So I'm currently having problems with stuttering in Skyrim, and I'm quite confident that its a problem with not enough vram.

But there's something weird going on because, (i might be wrong) 1.5gb vram should be enough for the main texture packs in the Texture pack combiner at low res, right?

i'm seeing quite a large amount of stuttering while moving around, and i'm going crazy over it.

any help would be highly appreciated.

My spec:

(no idea what my motherboard name is)

windows 7 64 bit home premium

gtx 580 1.5gb Direct CU II (my temp at full load is about 50 degrees celsius)

16GB 1333 Ram

I7 2600 @ stock clock

EDIT: I'm also not using a higher Ugrids setting.

Are you running anything that would prevent also running Fraps/Afterburner/etc.? This way you can actually see what your VRAM usage is and narrow it down to that or start looking at other settings (although I'd probably also look at those anyway... i.e. ini tweaks, [skyrim] graphics settings, NVIDIA settings, ENB settings).

i usually have fraps on to see the fps meter, i don't currently have afterburner installed. and as i said previously, nvidia settings is pretty much only adaptive vsync, graphic settings are completely maxed and i can't use enb because of huge fps loss. btw im using 1 monitor in 1920x1080.

None, though for me it was more the result of the borderless window. I just like ATTK for the options of increasing CPU priority and optimizing ram while still being able to load the game with the borderless window and SKSE.

I haven't done extensive testing with ATTK but it does feel smoother.

First, why are you using Afterburner? Are you overclocking? These tools are known to cause some issues in certain situations. If you're just using it for measurements, I'd suggest using nVidia Inspector. When you open it, there is a button on the left that looks like a graph. That opens the monitors. Right-clicking on the opened graphs and going to Monitors on the menu will allow to pick and choose what items to monitor. There are 14 to choose from; everything from voltage and temperature to GPU load and VRAM usage. You can also log the monitors to a CSV file for later viewing.

What issues does Afterburner cause in Skyrim? Just wondering. I use it to overclock the GPU and I use the OSD to measure fps, Vmem, OC setttings, temp and fan speed.

No need for me to list (I can't remember the specific error I read about...might have been something to do with SKSE but not sure. I do remember is had to do with all the 3rd party overclocking software, not just Afterburner.). A quick Google Search will provide you with a list of issues when using Afterburner in a variety of situations.

None as far as I know, but it may be incompatible with ENB when it's running the OSD.
