Getting Wrye Bash To Run

So I posted this over on the Wrye Bash thread but since most of them don't actually use MO2 (instead opting purely for WB), they directed me over here.

Anyway, what happens is that whenever I attempt to start Wrye Bash standalone (306 or the new 307 beta 1) from within MO2 (both 2.0.7 and 2.0.8.1), it instantly crashes.

The MO2 log says the following:

What I ended up doing was copying all esp and esm files from the ModOrganizer "mod" directory into the "data" directory of Skyrim Special Edition, then I had to make sure "plugins.txt" from "%localappdata%\Skyrim Special Edition" had the same load order as "loadorder.txt" from ModOrganizer, and then I ran Wrye Bash. After the patching is finished, I copied/moved the bash patch and the related bash patch folders created inside Skyrim Special Edition's "Data" directory into the bash patch folder of ModOrganizer, and then I deleted all the esps and esms from Skyrim Special Edition's "Data" directory. It requires a little effort, but hopefully this works for you too.

To both of you, could you please post your MO logs and ini.

There is nothing inherently different with running WB in MO2 compared to MO. I have it running just fine in my MO2 install and there are no issues I can see.

STEP does not endorse hacky workarounds like that proposed here. The user should not have to make copies of every plugin in the game's "data" folder to get WB to work.

WryeBash seems to work for the original Skyrim when running it through MO2, but for some reason it crashes or does nothing for Special Edition.

To be clear, I am not encountering the same issue, but I am encountering an issue as well with the new recently released official version back on Nexus: 307.beta1. Other users are encountering the exact same problem I did. I am suspicious it is linked to the other bug report I made some time ago along with the one I just posted on GitHUB a few moments ago (same user name/icon). Referenced link for at least two other users utilizing the most current "official" Wrye Bash version, which indeed is beta: link here. Scroll up for other posts(s) regarding the same issue.

I would be happy to post my MO.ini file, but it contains username and password information, which no one should be sharing, so I will not post that. However, I will post my MO interface log. Note the line item at 18:29:07 is because i manually deleted the bashed patch that was created in the vanilla data folder, instead of the overwrite folder that it would normally go to. I will be happy to post anything else as long as it does not include sensitive information.

From what I see in your logs it looks like it may be down to UAC issues, likely caused by your installation of WB into the Program Files (x86) folder. STEP in general, and MO in particular, recommends installing all tools outside of Windows UAC folders like those.

Try removing your existing WB install and place it into a folder all its own. I have a D:\Games\Utils\ folder in which I place my other tools such as WB or xEdit.

You needn't worry about your details too much, firstly your password is saved in the INI in an encrypted state so unless someone wants to force break it open it isn't exposed, secondly you can simply delete that line after you paste it into the webpage.

Now, unrelated to WB, but you seem to have Qt issues with some UI elements in MO2, try deleting everything inside the [Geometry] section of your INI and then start MO2 again to see if it is corrected.

The file: usvfs-2017-01-02_22-27-54.log is actually the most important one for me here as it details what is, or isn't loading.

I'll do that on the Geometry section, but how do I tell if it's fixed? What am I looking to see happen?

Note: MO2 didn't show the user/password encrypted. It was the name and my actual password in plain text after I copied the ini. I always look through stuff like that just in case and ouch! If I hadn't, someone could have logged into Nexus or Steam as me. Just copy and paste would have done it.

usvfs file requested: won't let me--- too long at 3200 lines or whatever it is. Can't really say I'm surprised. 3000 lines is way too long a post.

Grant, the geometry section is blank... no... gone in the MO.ini file now.

Regarding the log files. I made a copy of the one you wanted so I don't lose it to overwriting. I've got it. It's 790kb big compared to the typical 1kb. The two other log files I have trying to run Wrye bash are 1372kb and 1416kb. Yikes. The log file after deleting the geometry section is back to 1kb.

Your problem is not with MO2 or WB, it is because you are trying to run WB for Skyrim from an instance of MO2 set for SkyrimSE!

You need to switch MO2 from Skyrim or SkyrimSE by using the game selection dialogue on the far left of MO2's toolbar.

If your logs are too big you can either host them on PasteBin or archive them and post the links to the zip file here. You also need not worry about losing anything with those files, there are just logs and can safely be deleted after each run if you want.

The geometry section is not crucial, I just noticed some oddities in your logs. If you see no issues with the UI don't worry about it.

Your problem is not with MO2 or WB, it is because you are trying to run WB for Skyrim from an instance of MO2 set for SkyrimSE!

You need to switch MO2 from Skyrim or SkyrimSE by using the game selection dialogue on the far left of MO2's toolbar.

If your logs are too big you can either host them on PasteBin or archive them and post the links to the zip file here. You also need not worry about losing anything with those files, there are just logs and can safely be deleted after each run if you want.
The geometry section is not crucial, I just noticed some oddities in your logs. If you see no issues with the UI don't worry about it.

I see nothing obviously wrong with your logs. From what they are saying MO2 is working fine and WB is correctly called. Perhaps you can detail, in a new thread, exactly what is happening.

However I will offer these general suggestions.

You have both MO2 and WB installed as sub-directories below your Steam install. Try and install them into their own folders away from Steam.

I use this: D:\Games\ModOrganizer2 & D:\Utils\WryeBash

In that last folder is contained everything that is in the "Mopy" folder of the WB archive.

That's what I'm doing though. I only clicked on Skyrim because I wanted to show that WB through MO2 will still launch if I choose Skyrim 2011, but for some reason not if I choose Skyrim Special Edition. I only use MO2 for Skyrim Special Edition; for Skyrim 2011 I use the old Mod Organizer, which everything works with 100%. Thanks for trying to help though.

To both of you, could you please post your MO logs and ini.
There is nothing inherently different with running WB in MO2 compared to MO. I have it running just fine in my MO2 install and there are no issues I can see.

STEP does not endorse hacky workarounds like that proposed here. The user should not have to make copies of every plugin in the game's "data" folder to get WB to work.

@GrantSP here are my log files and INI as requested.

A little more detail as well: I reserve one of my drives exclusively for game-related modding and such since the size can be quite substantial, and that drive is F. Wrye Bash is installed to "F:\Wrye Bash\", and MO2 is installed to "F:\ModOrganizer\". For MO2, I have my instances in "F:\ModOrganizer Instances\" (with Fallout 4 being in the subdirectory "Fallout 4\").
