Anyway to make MO use normal .ini files?

Toosdey

Question

For FO4, I like to use the Fallout4Configurator tool, simply works a lot easier for me. But I THINK MO is overriding that changes it makes to the ini files with MO's customer ini files. Mind you, I admit I could be wrong on this, it's been a while since I've use either of these tools and admit I could be missing something more basic, but I was looking for some insight here.

I don't have Fallout 4 installed and I've not heard of the Fallout4Configurator (FO4C) but assuming it does what similar Skyrim tools do this is what will be happening:

  1. That tool edits the default INIs as stored in My Documents, ie. the ones the game uses when not run via MO.
  2. MO uses profile specific INIs that are created from the default, so if you use FO4C first and THEN create new profiles in MO, they should be based on the now modified INIs from FO4C.

If that tool has a setting that can be used to look for other INIs, you may be able to point it to those in the profile you are using.

Regardless of what happens MO is not overwriting any of the default INIs, all changes are made to copies in the active profile.

There is another method that I personally haven't tried that may suffice.

In MO's settings go to the plugins tab and edit "INI Editor" to be 'external=true' and 'associated=true'. If you have set up, if possible, FO4C as the default Windows tool to edit INIs it will be called instead of the INI editor.

I think the profile feature in the original MO2 was broken and they were not used only the My Games are used. I have not been following the current development closely by @LePresidente so I do not know if it has been fixed yet.

Unless you use the internal editor or configurator in MO, MO does not edit the fallout4.ini and fallout4prefs.ini directly. Instead it creates a file called initweaks.ini in the active profile. This file, which should not be edited by the user because it is dynamically created at each game run , should contain additions that are a combination of MO added things and any initweaks from mods and ini files added by mods. Again I am not sure this features is working at this time.

As for the configurator, is it this one? If so when run through MO it only changes the "MY Games" ini files even if the "local Game settings" is checked for the profile. This would have to be changed in the program to point to the active profile. Then again I believe the profile system in MO is still not working.
