Flickering Flashlight

apc0243

Question

Hey there, I've got the F&L collection installed pretty perfectly. There are a few bugs, none that are game breaking though at all. Haven't had a CTD in a few hours (almost to nipton, just met Willow) and am generally happy.

However, the flashlight is awful - it flickers non-stop and feels genuinely painful to use, which is causing the nights to be unplayable. Is there any solution for this? If not, is there a way to easily brighten the nights?

I'm running a rig with an i7-5930k, gtx970, and 16gb ram. I also notice that some of the background LOD objects (like the far hills and rocks) have a similar "flickering" to them.

That is one of the few mods in the guide I always reconsider having in the guide. It is a great concept, but it can be buggy. You probably don't have anything wrong with your setup though, it is just a mod that has some bugs.

The LOD flickering issue is a Bethesda engine thing called Z-fighting where the LOD textures are fighting to be displayed. There are ways to reduce it, but it creates other issues.

Here's STEP Z-Fighting Guide.  Here's my FalloutPrefs.ini:

[TerrainManager]

fBlockLoadDistance=125000.0000
fBlockLoadDistanceLow=50000.0000
fSplitDistanceMult=4.0000
fTreeLoadDistance=40000.0000
Don't use the FnearDistance Tweak.  The PipBoy will clip thru the Player.

Don't like the Darkness?  To Immersive for you? :P jk Nevada Skies use to be in the Guide.  And it recommended using the Nevada Skies Darker Nights.  That's what I use and yea, It's Dark. =There should be a vanilla version, but idn if that's what your using.  As for flickering Flashlight... NVSE.ini memory tweaks seemed to alleviate some of the Flashlight Flickering, but I sound like a broken record w/ that tweak xD

I find RWLE to not be bad when it comes to nights. Although I find I still tend to go to bed early and just start my days early in the morning since I don't like dealing with the infrared stuff.

I think I tried the guide a year ago orignally when Darker Nights was the recommended one and yeah that was brutal. Too dark for me.

Those are actually the settings I have after following F&L, nothing there is a change. At least, not in mine. But the darkness doesn't bother me, it's just that I literally couldn't see - going through the Repconn building was really annoying and the flickering flashlight was obnoxious.

I ended up just jacking up the brightness which solved it. I put it back down once I was outside, but whenever I go into another "dungeon" I'll put it up enough that I can see. It's not the darkness, it's that Willow just runs off and I can't see 2ft in front of me!
