It might not make a huge difference, but 4GB of RAM is a little low, especially when you take into account all the overhead of the OS and background applications. If you can spare $30-40 USD I highly recommend you pick up another 4GB. Other than that you'll probably be fine with Extreme as Techangel said, with 2GB of VRAM you should be able to throw in mostly 2048 textures.

Who uses over 4GB of system RAM when gaming? :P If they do, I'd say they need to start closing some programs before running the game. Currently I have 2 explorer windows open, Windows Mail, Firefox with 9 tabs, Wrye Bash, Photoshop, FRAPS, MS Security Essentials, NetWorx, and Task Manager open and am only using 2.5GB of system RAM. (yeah, I multitask)

I just opened and minimized the game as well and now I'm still only using 3.4GB. 4GB of system RAM should be plenty.

Highest RAM load in Skyrim, modded after STEP guide, mostly with medium textures where available, was 2.5 GB. So IF multitasking in the way techangel said (with Photoshop opened, why in the name of reason should anyone let PS run while Skyrim-ing? ;) ) 4 GB of RAM won`t be enough indeed. But actually, runing the game under Game Booster that close all unnnecesary running programs while gaming should provide enough set-up so a 4 GB of RAM to be enough. At least it is for me. I also let quite some chrome windows opened and some monitoring programs like GPU-z or CPU-z or Fraps and sometime Adobe Acrobat and some Word pages and so on. But never used more than 3.2
