MO not carrying over mods to saved games

gmg2dave

Question

I just recently returned to Skyrim after not playing for a while, 6 months or so, and I am having a strange problem I cannot figure out. I have not changed anything in my MO set up since the last time I started the game but I am having a problem with my mods. Not with mods loading into the game, they do that just fine, but it seems every time I load a saved game, any items, spells, anything loaded by a mod to the game are all gone from my character. And I mean everything. Naked character and if I saved the game in a location added by a mod, I am teleported to the nearest (?) inn, and again, everything but the vanilla items in my inventory is gone.

In addition, every time I load the game, all of the mods that use MCM are loaded fresh into the game as if I had just installed them and I have to go back into MCM and configure them all over again.

As an example, i have a mod classic classes and birthsigns that adds, you guessed it, the classes and such from previous TES games to Skyrim. Every time I load a saved game, I am once again given the option to pick a class/birthsign as if I had just installed the mod for that save. Nothing ADDED by a mod is being carried over to a new load when I save a game. EVERY mod I have is installing itself fresh like it had not been used by MO in a previously saved game.

Another example, all of my custom companions are reset to their start position and any progress I have made in personal quest lines, etc, items I have given them anything are all gone as if I had never recruited them. Not sure if this applies to vanilla companions, as I haven't gotten that far in my new game because I keep having my inventory stripped every time I try to load a saved game and I've pretty much given up until I can figure this out.

This has happened to every character I have, in every profile I have, and even in a new game I just started to test this out and see if the problem was a corrupted saved game. But the problem persists in a brand new game. Every time I load a saved game this happens.

Not sure if I am being clear here, but basically, my saved games are not recognizing mods that are loaded by MO into the game so every time I start the game and load a saved game, all of my mods are purged from the save file and loaded fresh at each new load of a saved game. Nothing is carrying over from save to save. Each time I save the game, it is like all my mods disappear from that save file and are again loaded like I had just installed them into the game. The stuff is all there, but I cannot save any items in my inventory from any mods that are installed.

I have no idea what is causing this, if it is a MO error, or somehow something has changed that is preventing mods from being saved to the character, or WTH is going on, and I am at a complete loss.

Any further information you guys need to help figure this problem out I will be glad to provide. And as an aside, I did validate all of my game files through STEAM as a first step to figuring this problem out. And again, all the mods I have installed are loading just fine, just not being applied to a saved game.

Do you need copies of anything else to give this a look?

Are you running the game by calling SKSE from MO?

There should also be a save game named similarly but with a *.skse extension. I don't need it, too many extra mods I'd need to load to test it in game. Just curious that is being created.

If you create a new profile with a subset of those mods does this behaviour also exist. The logs do not indicate any issue with MO as all your mods are shown as installed and loading.

Sorry for the late answer, IRL kicked me. And yes, I am using SKSE to launch the game from MO. As far as the saves go, yup there are files that end in SKSE, I just wasn't sure which ones you needed to look at, if you need to, I can upload those files as well.

And I tried your fix, created a new profile, activated the exact same mods I was using, and lo and behold it didn't strip everything from my character whenever I left the game. So, not sure what changed but there you have it.

Finally, the problem was never that the mods weren't loading, they loaded just fine, it was that anything ADDED by a mod was not getting applied to my saved games. Ie. If I created say a sword that was added by a mod, saved my game, and then exited the game, when I restarted the game and loaded that save, that sword would be gone from my inventory. And that applied to every single thing added by a mod to the game. The information from mods was not being applied to my saved games, and since saved games are normally handled by MO I figured I would ask the MO guys what was going on.

That being the case I think what you have is mod conflict more than an issue with MO.

Somewhere, somehow one or mods are conflicting with one another and this is causing your saves to store corrupted data, ie. records are being incorrectly assigned and not according to the scripts etc. that are supposed to edit them.
