Constant Flickering at startup/during gameplay

tbmg

Question

I have no idea if I am even describing this issue correctly and I am not sure how to record this phenomena properly. Basically what is happening is that starting when I start up Skyrim this flickering starts happening, almost like lighter pixels turn dark for a frame then turn back to their usual color... but is constantly happening. I thought maybe it was just an issue with the main menu, so I loaded up the game and it is doing the same thing. Nothing is wrong with the picture though, no tearing, no fps drops, I even spent like 10 minutes walking around fighting things giving myself a headache almost throwing up in the process and nothing crashed or gave me any problems. I did troubleshoot this issue back to ENBoost by removing d3d9.dll and confirming that the game had no flickering issues. I do use Mod Organizer in case that makes a difference. I would also like to mention I am editing the .ini files not through documents. Thank you in advanced.

Yea you're VideoMemorySizeMb=61346 should be a lower value, have a look at https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory and the step for VideoMemorySize, follow the guide and input correct value.

It might not fix the problem but make sure its setup correctly if you post on enbforums :).

Turns out I accidentally ran the directx11 which gave me that number. It did not fix the issue though. I actually found someone else with the same problem but they did not leave their solution. Something about overlays hooking into the game? I do not have anything like that though and I turned off steam overlay just to see if it would work and it did the same exact thing. Maybe someone understands what the were talking about better than I did? https://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5642

EDIT: I do use afterburner but I do not keep it open or even see it running in the task manager

Suppose that's a generic answer from creator of enb but just make sure in your task manager you only have essential tasks running, if you don't know what something is then google the file name. Guessing you know what crapware is..? I close every running task and don't even leave my virus checker running in background when gaming, only thing I do leave on is firewall, I even end intel software. So make sure things like Windows Defender is closed completely just to be safe. Sounds like you have already cleaned up crapware but always best to double check just beforehand. If you have any trouble post a screenie of task manager to be sure..

Make sure all drivers are updated not just graphics so sound and system drivers as well. If you have the newest, try an older one/graphics only. Very occasionally there are small incompatibilities with individual games.

Then try disable the skyrim.ini tweaks for enb and the deferred rendering. Then try UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false to be sure and if still the same try without the direct3d9.dll in skyrim folder completely.

Post back with results.

EDIT Things installed are completely fine, just close everything. I have 32 active processes when gaming and under 1gb of system memory used before I start MO or skyrim, just to be sure nothing can interfere.

And make sure to have restarted at least once since you noticed you had the problem since some problems can only be fixed with a quick restart, basically you're being the doctor of a patient with a unknown condition so these things take time..

Okay, I have tried just about everything you suggested except rolling back drivers because that is way too much work. None of it worked. At this point I'm thinking I might just quit trying because somehow without enb the game is unplayable from a performance view and still unplayable with enb because looking at the screen gives me a disease. Just from looking at what the creator said, he thinks enb is not at fault for this and I can not find what is. So unless anyone has any other potential solutions (which I would really appreciate) then I quit.

Yea it does occasionally take an absolute age to diagnose problems, if only you could get it working with deferred rendering off/speed hack no graphics then reshade would compensate a bit for a lack of enb.

If you ever feel like trying different drivers it's just a case of downloading display driver uninstaller, restart safe mode, make sure AMD drivers selected and click clean and restart then you can install new drivers so not too much of a chore. Maybe Google amd drivers enb and hopefully you can find a set that works.

Oh sorry you have gtx 1050ti that is a puzzle in that case, it's usually amd graphics that have strange issues with enb. Sorry couldn't help you more.

OKAY. Not that anyone cares but I thought I might as well wrap up this saga of troubleshooting, so I have no idea what the actual issue was. But I did get it fixed, deleted the entire Skyrim directory and started from scratch. Well that worked and now I have no issues... yay. I guess I must have missed a s.t.e.p. you know what I mean? Either way, when in doubt start over and try again.

Going to deviate a little here, but mostly stay on track.

Just downloaded ENBoost, went to play, and I nearly had a ******* seizure because of how quickly the screen was flickering.
This...isn't a joke. I play in a really bright room with an open window right next to me, and had to exit the game as quickly as possible because my head started to hurt and I felt nauseous.
This is a very serious issue for people who have epilepsy or are photosensitive.
I, thankfully, don't have either; but the fact that it still affected me is bad.

So, yeah, had the same issue, someone suggested it might be because I had the ENBoost FPSLimiter enabled. Going to check it out now.

Make sure all the overlays are off. Steam, GeForce Experience, etc. Some capture software can cause issues with ENBSeries too.

Also make sure your vsyncs are combating one another. I know some users who don't have performance issues will turn all vsync off and just run the driver's FPS Limiter to skirt some issues too.
