Mod Organizer 2 Can't Start Skyrim SE

mod organizer skyrim special edition skse crash wont start

Sounds like something related to those mods then, if SKSE ran the game fine without any installed.

Try this as a troubleshooting effort:

1) Deactivate all mods in MO2. Attempt running SKSE through MO2. If this works, go to 2, otherwise, verify that SKSE is properly installed. Those instructions can be seen in the main build guide for STEP 2.10.0 (though it uses MO1 in that guide, the instructions are identical).

2) Activate one or two mods at a time, and start though MO2/SKSE. If it works, great - add one or two more in and repeat. If it doesn't, figure out which of the ones you turned on is causing the problem and replace/repair/edit it as needed to get it working.

My guess right now is an SKSE install problem, but there is also a feel of a possible missing master mod as well if the game is dropping before hitting the menu... I've seen it happen a few times so quickly that the screen never even went black from MO, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

I am at my wit's end. Mod Organizer 2 won't start Skyrim Special Edition with SKSE, launcher, or just the game. Steam starts it up fine but with no mods. Every time I click 'Run' on any of these, the MO2 locked window pops up for a few seconds, my computer fans speed up as if the game is about to start, and then the fans go back to idle speed and the locked window disappears.

This is the log:

This is my load order from LOOT:

There are two common fixes to this issue. The first is uninstalling vcredist x64 and x86 and restarting system, which I tried to no avail. There is also a known bug causing this with Immersive Jewelry which is fixed by deleting some .maya folders in Textures/Prvtl. Sadly, this did not fix the issue either. Any suggestions? I have no idea where to go as this is a fairly undocumented problem.

If it helps, I just finished reinstalling the game and redownloading all of my mods into MO2 because I had it split between NMM and MO2 and that was causing problems before.

I see you installed Mod Organizer in C:\Program Files and this is not recommended because it causes UAC issues. You'll run into similar issues if you have the game installed in C:\Program Files or any other UAC controlled folder. Also note that if you run Mod Organizer as a limited user but run SKSE or the game as an Administrator, the hooking process will not work because Windows prohibits processes running with limited permissions from interacting with a process that has admin privileges.

I've moved ModOrganizer2 and the profile into documents, but no change :/

And the Skyrim install as well? If your Steam install of Skyrim is in those folders as well, the problem could still exist.

Haven't moved the Skyrim install yet, but in the process of moving MO2 to Documents I ran SKSE before re importing the mods from a backup folder and the game started fine. Then I put the mods in and same problem.

Turns out I had face to face convo for Skyrim installed in SE for some reason. Thanks so much for the suggestion, game runs now.
