Question

Originally Nightmarecast posted this in the Nexus MO forum. So that this discussion will not get buried on the nexus forums I created the question here and will respond to it here.

Hello, I just had an apphang problem with the latest version of MO, I fixed the problem which was caused by me locking my load order. I locked my load order last time I ran MO and it was fine, but when I tried to open MO just now it hang everytime and gave a not responding in the task manager, so I remembered that I locked my load order last time and went into the profiles folder and removed the txt file marked lockedlorder and it worked.

Just wanted to report this if it's a bug or maybe I locked a mod that shouldn't have been locked in the order, I dunno.

Also, thanks for this awesome program, it's much better than NMM.:)

I have to admit I didn't know about that feature. If you can reproduce the issue by locking the loadorder again and it hangs again then please create a ticket for it in the issue tracker .

Can somebody please explain under which circumstances you want/need to lock the loadorder of mods?

What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of this?

Also have more users experienced this issue?

If you are intending to add more mods to a game that already runs well' date=' one might want to lock the present load order so that nothing can change it. But with BOSS controlling the load order I don't see why anyone would want to worry about it.[/quote']

Um... BOSS isn't infallible especially if you have a complex load order there are cases you should use BOSS Userlist Manager or set it manually. I would say that locking a working load order and even copying the profile are good practices.

Locking the load order, unfortunately, doesn't work near as well as using BOSS in conjunction with BUM to manage custom load order placements (I have a 9.83 KB userlist myself). This is mostly evidently when using a SkyProc Patcher, as it will generally resort your load order using BOSS, and the locked thing is unrecognized by them, and has caused the patcher to throw a fit for me many times. Of course, this can easily be avoided by turning automatic BOSS sorting in conjunction with SUM during patching.

Also useful for locking mod groups. Used to have issues with my weather and lighting plugins getting shuffled and locking just those stopped until BOSS updated.

Might I ask why you didn't use BOSS Userlist Manager - BUM for that. It looks as if it is the ideal candidate for handling such a situation. It allows you to create rules for BOSS in an easy way.
