MO with Oblivion-- archive invalidation?

Luinithil

Question

Currently attempting to get a brand new install of Oblivion up and running in a new MO install with a handful of mods. What puzzles me is that when I go looking for a setting in MO to see if archive invalidation as an option is on, I don't see it. I see there's a "backdate BSAs" button in the Workarounds section, but I've also seen it said by Tannin on the Nexus forums that backdating the BSAs isn't a sufficient replacement for AI outside of Skyrim.

I understand that Wrye Bash uses BSA-redirection to get around the issues archive invalidation is supposed to prevent in Oblivion. What I'd like to know now is that if I start playing Oblivion now, with all my mods cleaned and installed as usual for MO, without backdating any BSAs or suchlike, will I run into trouble down the road? Thanks!

activate archive invalidation via the profiles section in MO.

D'oh! Thank you. I am the derpiest derp to ever derp, really. How'd I miss that?

ETA: I forgot to ask earlier, but should I unpack all my Oblivion BSAs like I did for Skyrim? I had that mysterious archive limit issue with MO in Skyrim, and wonder if it might happen again in Oblivion.

eh....i have heard that unpacking all bsas in skyrim has no impact on performance but can actually increase performance for older TES games such as oblivion. try and see' date=' MO makes it so easy to fix it if you mess up after all.[/quote']

Increase performance? What I read earlier in the evening suggested it decreased performance-- negative impact from unpacking BSAs in Oblivion, so I went and reinstalled everything in BSA format. >.<

Oblivion only has single core support so unpacking BSAs is preferable' date=' but with multicore support in Skyrim there is no difference in performance.[/quote']

Thanks for that info EssArrBee. Going to try that if i run into issues with BSAs like I did in Skyrim. Currently however my mods are installed in MO, but aren't showing up in game, despite having set my workaround startup to Script Extender, making sure latest stable OBSE is installed properly and starting Oblivion from there-- which was supposed to be all you needed to get MO going with Oblivion, right? I installed Nuska's Oblivion Character Overhaul and I'm still getting default head, etc on my character creation screen. No idea where things are going pear-shaped.
