Problem with new windows 8.1 update?

Razorsedge877

Question

When I try to download or update a mod as the mod is installing it will list twice in the download pane as it is downloading. After it is finished downloading I will get a warning that basically says can not rename unfinished meta. I am using v1.0.7 on windows 8.1 operating system. I have even tried reinstalling MO and am still having the same problem

This isn't a problem with Windows 8.1 as I use it successfully with Mod Organizer. I've experienced this before, but I forget the steps to reproduce. This should not be normal behavior. If this occurs for every mod you attempt to download, that would be abnormal behavior, which should be reported to the issue tracker.

I Have tried MO 1.6 also and am still having my problem. To be honest I'm a computer noob learning as I go so i'm not sure how I will figure this issue out. I' really like win 8 but hate 8.1. Will I be able to revert without doing a reboot?

No, Windows 8.1 was essentially an OS upgrade/install and there is no way of reverting back to Windows 8 without completely wiping and reinstalling it from scratch. I just did this today; however, I opted to go back to Windows 7 and leave 8 behind for now.

just for the heck of it I downloaded MO 0.12.9 and it worked fine. I noticed that I don't have the python folder in my file for MO 1.0.7. I know I need the 32 bit python file but am not sure which one to choose. I'm wondering if it should be Windows x86 MSI Installer (2.7.5) or if it should be Windows x86 MSI database (2.7.5)

@Razorsedge877. I've googled it for you.

Question with answer can be found here and extra info here.

Summary: File "Windows x86 MSI database (2.7.5)" is the Python windows executable with debugging extensions. You don't need this.

Please download and install either "Windows x86 MSI Installer (2.7.5)" OR download Wrye Bash 304.1, the installer version. It contains and installs the correct Python version. As a bonus you get Wrye bash. WB when kickstarted by MO is also very useful for creating a Bashed Patch.

Note: Python currently is only needed for Configurator plugin, so it is not absolutely necessary for MO usage.

I have installed the Installer version. It took me a couple minutes but I figured out that the files in the python folder needed to be directly in the MO folder. That might be worthwhile putting in the WIKI. I'm also wondering if the python version 2.7.6 will work since it is the newest to date. As fo my double dwnload problem it is still not fixed.Im still working on converting my operating system back to windows 8. I kept trying the recovery manager in the apps section of wdws 8.1 but it wasnt working but this morning i did a recovery search in my my system and found another option. I really hope it is working because i'm having a slight MO withdraw. I guess i will find out in a few hours.

The one thing I can say is that I know you guys put alot of time into all the nexus post threads and here on the WIKI threads and I want to thank everyone that helps out.Modding is a time consuming thing to learn and if it wasnt for all the help from the pros us beginners would have a lot bigger learning curve. I look forward to someday being able to return the favor by posting helpful info to new users when someday I'm confident in what I myself have learned.

I don't think you have to install python into the MO folder. Installing python into your OS drive should be enough.

As far as I know, only the version of python recommended in the Wiki is compatible. I have tested the newest version myself and it is not compatible with MO at this time, because the configurator that MO uses was built on the Wiki recommended version of Python (or something like that).
