NEEDS A REVIEW
I know STEP uses a variety of methods to improve the water and terrain quality.
Monty is quoted in the install saying a fresh install without any other water mods is needed. Is this a step above STEP?

Dropped in 2.2.8 in favor of Realistic Water Two.

Effectively, with RWT(T) now defunct this is afaik the main water related mod going, and will I assume become the selection for STEP. Itwas a shame that Isoku's waterfalls ended up being the bug fest as many users including myself really liked them :(

The one thing that worried me is the inclusion of non-related content into the new mod (thinking of the chests, follower, &etc) I've seen a few other modders do this and I think it just muddies the purpose of the install. Maybe that's just my open-source philosophy take on it - one module does one thing really well, not 10 things so-so.

The extra bits have become a bit of a sore subject it seems. So many people were such dicks about it that he's dug his heels in. I don't think he's really planning on diluting the focus of the mod in any significant way - it's really just a few easter eggs and a bit of sunken treasure for fun.

It's by no means hopeless, just there's just no foolproof way of getting rid of the glitches. Below is the procedure that Optic was recommending to 'clean' the old saves. It seemed to work well for some people, but not others. It's not an isolated problem with this mod - Bethesda save games are just not very robust. If you keep changing mods and just continue saving, it's not unusual for something to get screwed up.

1) Travel to another world space that IS NOT classed as the Skyrim world space.

This is either Solitute, Windhelm, Whiterun or Riften. You need to be in the

city walls loaded into these separate worlds. Other places like Morthal won't

work as they are located in the Skyrim world space. Interiors may also work.

2) Open the command console and type "pcb" (without quotes)

3) Make a new save.

4) Exit Skyrim and Uninstall the 2.0 version of the mod.

5) Install the newest version of RWT

6) Play Skyrim and load your "world space/interior" save.

7) Open the command console and type "pcb" again (without quotes)

8) Play.

I know the existence of this mod is not news to anyone, but there are a couple of developments to note. The quality of the water improvements is well established.

In the current version (1.3), a fair amount of additional gameplay content, in the form of treasure and NPCs, was included with the aesthetic modifications. While I defend any mod author's right to make such decicions, it certainly was not ideal for STEP. This additional content is being removed from the next version (due soon), and the mod will again be 'pure' in its purpose. It also includes new riperian flora as an optional extra, along with OpticShooters other 'water' mods - Get Wet and Kerplunks Rocks. I would recommend taking all the extras.

One other small point of note is the installer, created by Wr_Berg. It is a complex BAIN packaged with an FOMOD installer, making it both NMM and Wrye compatible. I think this is an excellent solution.

I think any mod that includes other mods is a positive thing for STEP. Having a one stop shop for multiple mods will only help reduce install time and makes STEP more user friendly. It also helps that the included mods were already included in STEP, so I imagine it is easier for TC to write the guide with less individual entries and less links. I know that going through the guide I missed a few links just because there were so many.
