STEP type guide for Fallout New Vegas

Recommended Posts

I am most likely going blind, but I could not find a General discussion forum.

Having recently purchased Fallout New Vegas, I was wondering if anyone had

any ideas or links for a STEP type modding guide for Fallout New Vegas.

This post is bound to be in the wrong place, please tell me where to move it to,

or move it for me, or delete it if it violates any TOS.

I have one posted, but it is in the very beginning of it's development, like v0.1. I was going to be addressing it over the next couple of weeks with some proper testing. Work, holidays, and other projects have gotten in the way. The section with the NMM setup for DarnUI, MCM, OneHUD, and Unified HUD is still not working perfectly, so that would be a part that is use at your own risk.

The rest is pretty straight forward, very few gameplay mods, so people can pick their own since FNV requires so many compatibility patches.

EDIT: Also, moved to Fallout sub forum.

Edit: I knew I was going blind.

- Gaming/Fallout Series subforum staring me in the face all along.

Thanks alot, I will look it over.

Quote:"Users already familiar with STEP and Skyrim Revisited will notice that this takes queues from both styles of guides."

-Its cues not queues.

-But seriously, I will have a go and leave you some feedback.

Also, I found that Gopher has a good guide to modding FNV which should serve as a good base.

I'm really surprised more STEP members haven't jumped on the FO3/FNV experience. There is a vibrant modding community with lots of cross-over from TES3/4/5. I was very thankful for the FNV mod guide by EssArrBee linked above in this thread. I used that as a foundation and then scaled it up to 227 mod packages using WryeFlash/BAIN to manage it (not a MO fan). I've added ewi65's E enb for FNV and look very forward to a hardcore (meaning the vanilla hardcore option which has realistic needs built in) playthrough kicking off this weekend.

Did you get the interface part to work with NMM installing the mods at the beginning and then using the MO import?

If not what did you use? Any feedback on that guide is welcome. I have been focused on the STEP Guide because a few of our main members are out with RL stuff, but a couple are returning and I promised myself I would return to that guide. Would love to here what worked and what didn't from other users.

I prefer BAIN myself, so just Wrye Flash in the case. I started to install MO, but like with Skyrim I discarded it before successfully setting it up.

I've added an organizing suffix to the various mods for ease of archive, installed, tweaked the order to avoid conflicts indicated by Wrye and bashed a patch. Edited ini files per your interface suggestions and tweaked for Enhanced Blood and ENB. Got 4gb and SKSE sorted, now I just need to wrap up the some RL and actually play the darn thing. I'll be back tomorrow or next with a gameplay report.

If you can suggest a suitable place for it I can share my install order, and how I sorted the esp files unrecognized by BOSS. That's going to take a bit of space, and I need to take it for a spin & gather some empirical evidence that its stable, so feel free to suggest how much & where I should post.

Looks like I overestimated my pc's (or FNV's) ability to cope with my need to over-mod. I'm not getting past the game's initial loading screen (ILS before intro/start menu). I'm uninstalling mod packages from my BAIN archive systematically to determine which straw broke the install's back. Will post more as I know more, feel free to post suggestions if you have any :-)

I my head I'm seeing a mechanic caricature pointing at the currently burning engine in my car and exclaiming "well there's your problem".

:-)

I'm selectively uninstalling through BAIN, no real harm done order is preserved for easy re-installation. I removed E enb previously to eliminate that, I can easy drop it in later. I believe I have 4gb patch & NVSE playing nice together, but I admit I'm not as savvy with them as the memory patch 3.0 for Skyrim.

We are looking for any community members that want to step up to provide STEP guides for the other TES games. it is a lot of work, but we are willing to host it and provide all of the base infrastructure (forums/wiki).

new admin required though!

Remember that Gamebryo can start to really break down around the 140 plugin mark.

Does the "break down ... 140 plugin mark" relate to number of esp files or memory load?

I notice the NMC texture's (medium) are absolutely massive (5 times the size of all my esp files) but don't add esp plugins (obviously). However, uninstalling the textures hasn't allowed me to proceed past the initial loading screens (still shots, no intro sequence or menu).

No one knows what exactly the problem is with gamebryo. It is probably the same problem skyrim had with scripts. There is also a memory issue and nmc has a low pack but it shouldn't be to much on medium. They are a mix of 1k and 2k textures with enboost should okay.

Update: Things are proceeding well. I have eliminated the 4gb patch as it was problematic with ENB. I'm launching through NVSE with E ENB active to enjoy the enboost feaure included in the binary & to enjoy the enb post processing as well.

I have reinstalled mods one section at a time; MMUE/Project Nevada/Textures (Poco Bueno,NMC,Equipment & Weps), game launches as expected.

UI/HUD mods installed, no loading issue.

Continuing with equipment additons, companions, and finally new missions. We'll see where it finally chokes.

I'll post an itemized list of my build once I figure out what needs cut and have it "finalized". We all know I won't make it to 10th level before I retool and restart, so "final" probably isn't a word I should be allowed to use.
