Not moving this one to testing is probably from lack of mod testers at the moment.

Here we go again. This time HRDLC, SRO, and AMB.

HRDLC->SRO->AMB for all compares.

Fort Haragstad

Interior Floor (I'm guessing impfloormuddy01.dds)

Interior Floor 2 (impfloorstone01.dds)

Interior Wall (impwall01.dds or impwall03.dds)

Interior Wall 2 (impwall04.dds)
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Relief around door (looks like two textures to me, but I'm really tired)
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Roof of fort (not sure which texture, someone in the know can figure it out)
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

That is a good amount to stat with. Anyone else could theoretically do the same thing, wink wink.

Just as a note, vivid landscapes imperial forts should be added to the compare for completeness of the major mods touching this space. :) I'm too busy to take the shots myself unfortunately.

Nice work SRB! Thanks a TON for doing this. (agree that we need other contributors in this area) All in all, I think SRO stays the most true to vanilla; however, most of the AMB versions suit my taste. In particular, the interior floor is spot on. I also like the flatness of the AMB versions ... masonry rock should not have any shine or brightness in most cases. A tough call to be sure. May as well see the VL stuff as Neo says though.

For this compares it's aMB for me all the way. SRO doesn't seems much of an improvement in a couple of cases, and even though aMB is different to vanilla, it's not different enough to reject it I think. Quality-wise, it's much much better than SRO.

hi Ess ...and thanks again for the time you spend for comparisons. if i can make a suggestion: there's an optional file with more rounded/mossy stones in dwload section,it's i guess the more appropriate choice for exterior at the moment , less mismatching with lod. there's half an idea with hein (vivid landscape) to work toghether on a project with parallax and other features, we'll provide new lod... but in the meantime my optional mossy stones file seems to cereate less problems. fort roof is impextfloor01

@ SRB: Are you certain you put the last 3 images 22,23,24 in the right order? HRDLC sticks to huge boulders with varying forms as parts of walls, where the rest is filled up with gravellike substance, although the quality isn't high enough to make that certain. The forts are covered in lots of mold and moss, which makes them look like they weren't maintained at all for at least a decade. Those forts are old, possibly built with the help of giants. Some of them have crumbled to ruins over the past 100-1000 years, wheras others still stand. SRO makes everything a little smaller and more defined. It's pretty much inbetween AMB and HRDLC. In general AMB makes the forts look "newer" and a lot better maintained just like Solitude. The rocks are more equally shaped, more craftsmanship, time, money and architectural knowledge must've been applicated here. The moss and mold has been replaced by sand/dust like stains on the walls. Those forts have been thoughtfully constructed in the near history. The destroyed forts haven't been destroyed since too long ago. It is Cabal's right as an artist to make his own artistic choices, however I would prefer the quality of AMB with the style of HRDLC.

Okay, I'll add them later, hopefully the nexus isn't so messed up later.

Those old castles got pretty greasy and grimey. No cleaning products laying around, just a couple of brooms.

I was getting afraid Vivid Landscapes won't be mentioned :D Imo, these two guys are a good competition to each other. They should merge and work together.

Okay so here are the optional AMB stones for a couple of shots, only the outdoor ones and the Vivid Landscapes pictures. Not sure VL has every indoor texture covered, and it also contains meshes. Someone start a thread for that mod and move to testing please and thank you.

Here we go again. This time HRDLC, SRO, and AMB.

HRDLC->SRO->AMB->AMB optional (for mods shots outdoors)->VL (no interiors for VL) for all compares.

I think that is probably everything except a few interiors textures that I haven't got to like stairs or something. AMB and VL exteriors are hit or miss for me. AMB indoors it really good, love the way it looks running through dungeons.

For forts we really need a mix and match method to get the best of all worlds. However unfortunately the same texture looks good, when applied on one structure and bad when on another one. The round version from this mod I really don't like on the walls of the fort. Everywhere else it looks a lot better than there...

AMB has great interior floors and good everywhere else. I also like SRO, particularly from a distance. I am ultimately very impressed with VL exteriors though. That is the only mod that has exterior stone that appears weathered and constructed from the endemic stone with weathered look/snow (not sure if this always applies though). Problem is that indoor stone walls should be same as outdoor (at least shape-wise). Need persons who have played in-game with each to comment.

I prefer Cabal's for all. They look the best IMHO. Rounded stones look great from the distance, but not so good up close (however there was only 1 shot of it).
