BAIN Package Support

niche99

Question

Hi,

Every BAIN package I have tried to install using Mod Organizer fails and is not recognised as a BAIN package. I can see the contents, but it fails to install correctly. Even a simple BAIN package is not recognised. In the plugin options the BAIN plugin has no information about whether it is enabled or disabled. Will Mod Organizer EVER suport BAIN packages?

My exerience to date with the versions of MO I have tried, despite the claimed partial support, is that it doesn't full stop.Surely it should be easy to make a BAIN installer for Mod Organizer? All that is needed is for any numbered entry that is selected to have selected sub contents copied into the virtual data folder? I would try myself, but a dll plugin system is really putting plugin development into the realms of the specialist programmer.

EDIT: the presence of the folder Wizard Images and the file Wizard.txt in BAIN packakges completely break BAIN recognition for MO. This was apparently reported in the BUG Tracker over a year ago! Please remove this restriction, just ignore them. I do not want to have to create duplicate BAIN packakges one with wizard functionality and one without!

Shoot! There I was, spending dozens of hours of coding to implement BAIN support and then I forgot to actually try it. Glad that after 2 years you came along to let me know...

/sarcasm

mate, If a BAIN package contains a wizard, that says that it's NOT a simple bain installer because a simple bain installer doesn't need a wizard. Since MO doesn't support wizards, it can't possibly know if the installation would be correct.

If you want better BAIN support, I'd suggest you fetch the MO source code and get to it. You certainly don't have to be a specialist programmer, the whole point of the plugin system was to allow improvements to MO without the need to understand the low-level stuff (including the plugin system itself).

Heck, you could even create a new python plugin for bain support and use the original wrye bash code for bain support.
