How to fix ice covered trees?

sobaixu

Question

So, I installed the CORE Step following the guide to a T.  Everything works, but half the trees show up covered in blocky, unsightly, ICE.

What mod in CORE Step would control this and how can i disable it?  Cheers!

Here's a Pic of what i'm talkin' about:

That's not ice...ugly or not, you are either missing a texture or have a mesh with either a bad sense of direction in finding the path to its texture or just a bad mesh.

Lastly: Black or purple "textures" can also mean your GPU is struggling to load the appropriate textures.

Hmm.. Strange.. I used boss to sort load order.. And I used Wrye bash to make a bashed patch. Neither Mod organizer or Boss or Wrye bash report any errors or conflicts or missing files... How can I track down which texture is missing?? I also only have a GTX275 GPU... But I used all the lowest res packs for everything i could in the STEP guide. And the game runs smooth as silk. ... It's just these trees that are buggin' me...LOL.. just saw the sticky post about finding missing textures.. i'll take a stab at that...

Thanks.. It's fixed now. I clued in once that how to find missing textures guide directed me to search for the mesh in the mods folders before the bsa i already unpacked -_-... ran a system search for "meshes trees" and the Trees HD mod folder popped up... I almost slapped myself. Disabled Trees HD in Mod Manager and trees look normal now.  Thanks for the help guys. : )

You do not have to disable the mod... it is most likely just a bad extraction from the archive it was in, or a bad install. It happens, most of the time it is easy to find the culprint, and then just reinstall the mod, and try again.

In by far most of the cases you can also see which texture it is since it will have a size of 0kb ... which is just wrong obviously.

Well, Trees are fixed. Now the only things that seem messed up are the Crafting Altars. The meshes and textures aren't missing because they are showing up, and i can use them to craft, but they are showing up totally buggy... Here's what i mean... I can't seem to find any threads regarding this issue on any forums. Will the above mentioned method of finding the missing meshes/textures work in this case?

Thanks for the lead... I managed to fix it very easily. I simply followed the instructions I found HERE for the Skyrim Texture Optimizer, which can be downloaded HERE. Worked like a charm.  : )

Note: For others who encounter this issue, the updated texture optimizer .ini file needs to be edited or you will get an error and the program won't work. Simply open the "Ordenador.ini" file and at the very top, change the letter of the drive path from "D":..., to "C":..., or whatever letter your drive with your skyrim mods is set to. Save the file and the program will now work fine.
