To start, I benchedmarked totally vanilla Skyrim, launched from the standard launcher. I did this to get the hang of the process before I dive further into this. I got an odd result. I'm using an AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series, claiming 2048 MB dedicated video memory. But when benchmarking, GPU-Z reported my dedicated memory usage at ZERO, through the entire test. I don't know a whole lot about this sort of thing, but I'm pretty sure that isn't what's supposed to happen. (Dynamic averaged 594 +/- 51.) EDIT: After a bit of research, what I've found is that for some reason, GPU-Z always reports zero dynamic usage under Windows 8. Can anyone here confirm this? Are my benchmarks even remotely useful? At any rate, here are the results, full vanilla test run: GPU Core Clock [MHz]: 800 +/- 0

GPU Temperature [C]: 49 +/- 4

GPU Load [%]: 98.25 +/- 0.91 Memory Useage (Dedicated) [MB]: 0

Memory Useage (Dynamic) [MB]: 594 +/- 51 FPS: 37.2 +/- 4.8

Benchmark 2.G. Landscape and Environment

GPU Core Clock [MHz]: 800

GPU Temperature [C]: 45.96 +/- 4.15

GPU Load [%]: 98.96 +/- 0.20 Memory Useage (Dedicated) [MB]: 0

Memory Useage (Dynamic) [MB]: 836 +/- 39 FPS: 32 +/-  4.4

I can definitely see my memorage usage ticking up, my FPS ticking down, at each stage, but I don't notice the impact as I watch the carriage ride.

Benchmark 2.H. Characters and Creatures

GPU Core Clock [MHz]: 800

GPU Temperature [C]: 46.33 +/- 3.78

GPU Load [%]: 98.88 +/- 0.35

Memory Useage (Dedicated) [MB]: 0

Memory Useage (Dynamic) [MB]: 845 +/- 39 FPS: 31.8 +/-  4.5 I'm starting to want to actually play the game, but I'm glad I'm doing this in stages. I caught a misconfiguration that would have been less fun to find had I just dumped all the mods in there and tried to play.

I am seeing the same thing. The dedicated is I believe an overrun. Once you use all your dynamic the card will start to cache stuff to system memory. So I think you want dedicated to stay low or 0.

I rushed thru the guide to get playing and payed a price. Got stuck on a quest and in the process of trying to figure out what was wrong had to start all over. Slow, read everything and use benchmark but also play test a few of the starting quest Vilkas in jorrvaskr is a good one. High Hrothgar is also sensitive to certain mods. I had my save file grow to over 20mb which is a death sentence for the game.

It helps to detect script flooding and some mods that were interfering in ways that made completing the quest hard if not impossible. Learning all about this now will, I think, make the game play thru more fun in the long run.

So do your benchmark but do play a bit until you have a happy CTD proof wonderful looking and playing load.

Your benchmarks are more or less what I am seeing.  Benchmarks

I'm using a AMD HD 7800
