F&L TTW Convergence Feedback

Hi. I'm TJ from the Tale of Two Wastelands team. This thread was just brought to my attention so I thought I'd post to maybe give some insight.

 

  • I use MO with TTW myself, but most team members use the newest FOMM. With the creation of UIO most of the issues with using MO with TTW have been dealt with.
  • TTW's latest release features a new installer. This takes a 1 hour + install and brings it down significantly, and if you're using MO you can skip FOMODs and drop your main files folder in your MO mods folder (for me the installer went from 50 minutes to 7 minutes from starting the installer to playing the game.)
  • TTW is getting very near feature complete. Most of the older issues have been fixed and it is now very stable when the rest of your load order is stable.

When I saw F&L I was bummed that TTW wasn't shown any love. I'd like to see a F&L TTW version as I think the STEP setup is great for people who don't know much about these games and it would be fantastic to have one for TTW. I'd even link to your site from ours.

So I've started trying to merge C&PD + F&L for a TTW overhaul.  I'm still quite early into it, focusing mainly on texture/meshes, but have started putting in some of the converted mods.  Below is my Mod order (not load order) so far. Mods are prefaced with the game for which they were designed.

Thank you! I just planned to start a TTW Setup and didn't have a clue which mods to use especially which are compatible in any way. Your list makes a perfect start (and you saved me a lot of time of searching through the Forums by adding the links to the TTW mods  ::P: )

Quite a few of the other mods should work, but alot would have to be gone through individually:

 

Fixes:

  • Armor Replacer Child NPC Fix - should work
  • Reload Speed Game Start Fix - I remember hearing something about an issue with this and TTW but I might be wrong
  • REPCONN Test Site Fixes - Should work
  • SafeShowRaceMenu - I'm not sure. I think FO3 has extra races FNV doesn't, which caused some issues with FCO

Cut Content

  • New Vegas Uncut Merged - should work
  • sandbox6 Merged - should work

Quests

  • Sortomatic - no idea
  • All others should work

UI

  • Until PN gets sorted out completely with patches I'm not touching this

Weather and Lighting

  • Electro-City - works
  • Nevada Skies - I think they fixed the TTW bugs.  I'm not sure it fits DC though.

  • Lauren's bathroom poetry - NV side works, FO3 side needs to be converted then merged

  • Animated Sweat Effect - should work
  • Fallout Character Overhaul - I've heard there are some issues with races
  • New Vegas Redesigned 3 - depends on FCO and therefore the races issue

On the lighting side I'm running the following without issue:

So far these all work without issue and look fantastic.  I think I have all the base weapons worked out from whats available so far (none of the added ones).  I'll post the combined order for all of them later, along with an updated list of texture/mesh mods.

For the time being, I'm collating a lot of changes/fixes to be made for some of the mods that the conversion script doesn't cover here: https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Adonis_VII.  This is not definitive in any way.  I just wanted to write everything I've found for hopefully some discussion at some point.  I'd still consider myself a novice at this compared to some of the more experienced members, but it should serve as a launching point.  Most location/lighting stuff is easy.  I have no experience with scripting however so I'm not touching any conversions with scripts.  Also many of the NV mods need proper extensions for FO3 weapons (IMPACT being the largest culprit).

As you are working on this, do you have a separate MO installation setup that handles all these mods isolated from regular Fallout3/NV mods?

 

You've tweaked my interest in getting TTW installed.

So I don't run the full C&PD as many mods won't be ported to TTW, like all the weapon mods.  This makes alot of the patches useless.  In MO I run a TTW profile and a F&L profile.  I've combined all the graphics mods from both guides already, and now am going through 1 by 1 to see what is converted and adding that to my TTW profile.  Right now I'm looking at each mod by itself, changing errors to work with TTW.  They all play nice with each other, but I'll still have to look in depth to make patches once I have everything in.  One thing I am not doing however is dealing with any added weapons/clothes such as Millenial's.  I'm trying to get all the weapons from FO3 completely fleshed out before adding anything new.

So you're saying you just made a TTW profile which is run from your standard FNV MO installation?

I guess you just manually add in the FO3 mods and the TTW specific mods to the MO installation?

 

I'll keep my eye on your progress, I'm just finishing off the F&L install after I had success with C&PD. I was going to do Mythic Dawn next but I lack a couple of the minor DLCs and I'm losing my love of Oblivion in favour of the Fallout series... again.

I did a clean install of FO3 and FNV.  I then ran the TTW installer and pointed to a temporary folder.  I archived all the TTW files with 7zip.  I went ahead and installed two copies of MO, and all the utilities for both games.  Then I just installed the archived TTW files with FNV MO and had it activated with my TTW profile, so I can switch between F&L and TTW.
