Load order in MO for optimised vanilla textures? Missing link on DDSOpt quickstart guide

DapperDan

Question

Hi, I've followed the DDSOpt quickstart guide and have optimised and archived the vanilla textures, just wanted to double check load order. The link to installation instructions with MO isn't there (instead of a link, it just says "insert location here"), and I've been following all instructions to the letter for fear of breaking something, so missing instructions are giving me conniptions ;)

Should I be weaving the optimised textures in between the unofficial patches and cleaned DLC's in MO left pane? Was thinking something like

Cleaned Update.esm

STD opt

Unofficial Skyrim Patch

Dawnguard

Cleaned Dawnguard ESM

Dawnguard opt

Unofficial Dawnguard Patch

etc.

etc.

Or do I just lump them all together after the DLC's and unofficial patches?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, exactly like that! This is mentioned on the DLC mod page detailed instructions, btw.

Sir, can you poin me to "DLC mod page...". I can't find it anywhere

Now my order looks like this (following this thread)

Now, I do not understand why "Cleaned DLC" are above Optimized one (_opt). Looking at Neo Skyrim Revisited, he put "Cleaned files" aka "Cleaned Vanilla ESMs" in one package and move them under "HRDLC3 Optimized":

In DDSOpt, uncheck [Behave] > [Raise foliage-map opacity each mip level] as this setting should not be used except for vanilla textures.Close DDSOpt.Start Mod Organizer.Check the box adjacent to all of the newly created folders in the left pane mod list to activate them.Drag and drop the mods into the order specified below:* Vanilla Optimized* Dawnguard* Dawnguard Optimized* Hearthfire* Hearthfire Optimized* Dragonborn* Dragonborn Optimized* HighResTexturePack01* HRDLC1 Optimized* HighResTexturePack02* HRDLC2 Optimized* HighResTexturePack03* HRDLC3 Optimized* Cleaned Vanilla ESMs* Skyrim Script ExtenderClose Mod Organizer.Navigate to <Mod Organizer Path>/mods and delete the .log files contained within. Optionally, review the contents to see the changes made.

Hope someone can give me explanation :)

If you are following the DDSopt QuickStart guide there is a pointer to the DLC wiki pages that discuss load order. The cleaned DLC are the .esm plugins. The optimized textures are separate.

Wait! Is this means that i can erase HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, HighResTexturePack03.bsa as they are worthless now.

And what about DLC(Dawnguard,etc..). Can i erase them as i have optimized one?

Is there any harm in unpacking the vanilla BSAs and leaving them as loose files? I'm running out of space on my main SSD and was hoping I could save a bunch by cleaning Skyrim this way, also letting the official HD DLC overwrite the vanilla textures.

The vanilla BSAs are smaller when they are BSAs vs. loose files. The HRDLC only replace a portion of the vanilla textures; there are many that are not replaced. You could possibly move the HRDLC BSAs to another drive after you create the optimized versions, but I wouldn't suggest removing any of the Skyrim - xxx.bsa files or the DLC BSAs.

I have found the instructions (under "detailed instructions available") on the STEP guide as to where to place the optimized texture files for the DLCs and the High Res texture packs. However I cannot find any instructions for where the optimized STD (Skyrim - textures.bsa) file goes in the load order.  I had it behind the 3 optimized HighRes texture files, but I will move it up so it is behind the cleaned update.esm.

I cant seem to find this pointer to the dlc wiki pages in the DDSopt QuickStart guide. It just states to go there with no link. I went onto the DLC wiki pages themselves dawnguard etc and only saw notes for TES5edit and nothing on optimized dlc for MO and the load order. Can someone point me to where to go/what to do next?

After moving the files into MO mods folder directly and not doing the archiving option I have placed them as shown below in the left MO panel. Is this correct and is there anything else needed to be done?

I'm fairly sure the load order details for the optimized textures used to be in some detailed instructions for the STEP guide. Perhaps this changed when moving to LOOT vs. BOSS; the installation pane itself isn't affected by LOOT but in some cases the exact installation order is flexible.

We'll add this to the update of the DDSopt guide that will be provided very shortly (probably tomorrow). The answer is that each of the optimized textures typically go right after the associated cleaned ESM files for optimized STD (optimized Skyrim - textures) and the 3 DLC. The optimized HRDLC go after the corresponding vanilla BSAs so they overwrite them, and the UHRP should be after all the optimized vanilla textures. In the picture you show some of the files seem out of order. Unofficial Dragonborn patch would typically be right after the optimized Dragonborn textures.
