Help understanding TES5 error checking.

CovertSlinky

Question

I could use some help understanding this. My google search didn't do much good, mostly led me to mod cleaning info, which I am already familiar with. It's a huge list, I apologize, I had to place it in a text doc because I couldn't get this thread to post otherwise, page kept timing out. I am willing to just accept information useful for understanding this. But, if someone is willing to look at it, and discuss it with me, would be appreciated. This is one part of modding skyrim I have yet to gain knowledge of. My knees are hurting to much from the arrows, so I am ready to start using it :)

Regards,

Slink

LOL you read my signature!

Always ignore Skyrim.esm and official DLCs.

Mostly, you're looking for the line. Depending on what it is depends on what kind of problem you'll get.

All the errors I'm seeing look like they would mostly only CTD when you perform different actions such as talking to people or going through certain quests, rather than walking through Whiterun.

You should only rarely approach authors about this as they tend to get defensive. Instead, figure out what bug they cause is and then approach the author about it. You never know, it could be that it isn't a bug at all, but it gives you a good clue.

LOL, yeah I have read your signature several times. I actually don't fully have a problem that led me to this. I just went and did it out of curiosity, then got overwhelmed with the results. I'm getting the idea of it's relevance now, as for a good way to help troubleshoot a problem, no?

So, the errors, are they errors within a mod alone? Or are they errors that form in conjunction with other mods? Like, the mods that popped errors, could I load it by it's lonesome, check for errors and see the same results? And, if a mod shows errors, does it mean that there really is a problem, or just potential for a problem?

That I really don't know fully, as I'm merely decent with TES5Edit, not expert at it. I know if I have an in the Tamriel Worldspace, I'm going to crash while outdoors without too much trouble. I'm not sure how this effects, for example, a spell with the same error. I presume that any time you cast a spell with an it will CTD, but I don't know. I merely presume on that note. I prefer to solve those problems when they appear.

As a rule for me, if a mod has an I don't use it. Other errors, such as unexpected record, etc., I tend to ignore. If I find an issue, however, I won't hesitate to look into it.
