Mythic Dawn: Gateway to Oblivion WIP

Thank you for updating this guide. The timing is off because I'm just starting to setup Oblivion for my son and everything here has been removed. I'm glad I saved a copy of an older version so I have the links and instructions for all the texture packs but I'm glad you have updated the guide to include OBGE 4.

I took was a little taken back by the use of LOOT vs. BOSS. Most people suggest BOSS for Oblivion, some even emphatically say stay away from LOOT. Of course I'll still give it a shot.

Can you include Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul in your guide? I started to use it instead of everything FCOM and I like it. It is very popular and frequently updated.

P.S. Can you include a link to the old guide? Just mark it 'unsupported' or equivalent.

Load Order is only so sensitive, some of the odd behavior with LOOT was worked on and now it isnt so unpredictable.

LOOT requires fewer rules and for most plugins, they dont care about LO as long as some records get forwarded which is Bash's deal.

Maybe, it depends on if I want it and if it fits. I don't know if I'll include any.

Its the wiki there are several ways to retrieve old info. Im not going to link it for use because there are some major oversights. Also, I found that some of the memory related stuff was causing CTDs, not fixing it, please adopt the changes by removing the "patched" exe, altering OSRs inis, adding more heap

I was going to look into that I just dont want another NVAC thing.

I found out about the "OblivionReloadedEsp.ini" which may contain some unwanted features and duplicate keybinds from what I want to recommend.

Anyone have any opinions?

Here is a dump of the default ones

EDIT: Also does anyone notice how laggy the water is when OR's

[Shaders]
EnableWater = 1
It's pretty bad to the point where I can see where it loops. I've been seeing it for a long while but thought it was because my vsync wasn't working.

Try rebooting your machine, it fixed my OR water problems.

Hey Hishy,

You probably saw, but DY rolled opINI into BethINI. Also in this version some of the INI tweaks for mods are auto detected, including some oblivion mods like Oblivion Reloaded. More info on the BethINI page.

Also, LOOT 0.9.2 released, which fixes the LOOT bug with Oblivion, so you can stop advising folks to use the old version now.

Cheers.

Hello,

I wanted to ask one or two questions about the guide and point out a few inconsistencies compared to the guide's last revision I began with.

1) About four times now, a BCF-file is linked. What are these?

2) Tools: "4gb_patch" is now gone. Is it now inside of another mod or somewhere else?

3) Tools: "TES4Edit" version in the guide is 3.1.1 (27 May 2015), but there has been a newer version for some time now: 3.1.2 (10 November 2015)

Should the older one be used because of other files in need of it?

4) Fixes: The names are wrong inside the 3rd entry "Unofficial Official Mods Patch". The mod author calls these "Unofficial Oblivion DLC Patches".

Also, the version number seems to be 23 instead of 22.

5) Fixes: The previous guide had a mod called "Elz - No Floating Weapon". Is it now inside of another mod or somewhere else?

Regards.

@ancient

2. 4gb patch causes random CTD's you would get an uknownversion.exe as the fault path and I believe this is because the laa alters the oblivion exe.  Also it is not needed with ENB boost, OSR's heap replacement, and moreheap in play.

5.  No floating weapon is included in Enginebugfixes

Not sure about the other questions you had but hishy will be able to answer those.

  1. BCFs are BAIN conversion files. These are used to remap an archive or project to be in a different folder structure. I use these for mods that need them to be easily installable. Info on this needs to be added to the guide but its fairly simple but for the time being, look at WB's documentation.
  2. The reason one would install this "patch" is to flag the exe as LAA, to get access to more ram. I found that this actually causes more crashes than it solves. The extra memory isn't really needed because ENBoost "removes" the texture cache and in early testing I found that oblivion doesnt use more than 2GB of memory to begin with. Overall, it causes more issues than it fixes and what it fixes, isn't really needed with ENBoost.
  3. Use the latest build of xEdit.
  4. The guys switched the names awhile back. If I remember, I'll change it, if someone else does it, there may be other anchors that need to be changed
  5. A better solution is provided in Enginebugfixes.

hishutup, I rechecked the guide, abd realized you had RAEVWD in it.  Just want to know your reasoning for this over the t4all, does it have better performance look better? etc.  I might just have to try it myself and see how I like it.

They do entirely different things.

Performance with the options I suggest shouldn't be too bad, 60 fps here

oh really? I thought it was the same thing lol.  Maybe I'll throw it in.  Ever since I got my titan x pascals the increase in vram has caused alot less stuttering for me, so it wouldnt hurt to throw it in the mix :)

do you think it would be okay to use both? or would be wise to use one or the other?  I know you said they both don't do the same thing but they both affect performance.

That was the goal, I can probably add another option

haha adding more at this point scares me but im willing to try it out.  Think I finally finished my load btw.  Hishutup take a look at these mods and tell me what you think.  Maybe it could be included in the guide, I have it in my LO.  Pretty much appeases OCD people and people who are lore nuts.
