F3 / FNV, Mod Organizer, and ini tweak files

perrob

Question

While modding Skyrim with MO there were several mods that made use of custom mini INI files that seemed to over-write small parts of skyrim.ini or skyrimprefs.ini

Is this an intrinsic part of Skyrim or of MO? If it's part of Mod Organizer, can it be applied to the Fallout games? for example, it'd be great to add a 'darnifiedui.ini' to dUI that contained just the [Fonts] section, meaning I didn't need to add it to fallout.ini manually.

Thanks for any light shed on this!

There are a few ways to do the ini tweaks.

On manual install of a mod and a mod supplied ini, tweak create a new folder called “INI Tweaks†and move the ini tweak into it. It should be just under the top Data folder.

For something you want to create after the fact you can navigate to the mods folder, select the mod and go into the folder and create the “INI Tweaks†folder and then create a new somename.ini file inside of the INI Tweaks folder and paste the tweaks and save. Start MO and enable the tweak.

If the mod is installed you can double click on it and it should open to the INI-Files tab. In the lower left there will be an Ini Tweaks box. Right click in it and select “Create Tweakâ€, give it a name and click OK. The named tweak will appear in the box. Click on it and in the right pane paste the ini settings, the Darn fonts section including the [Fonts], into the box and the save button will become active. Click it to save. Close the information window and reopen it and activate the new ini tweak.

Mo will build a custom ini file to for the game.

Plugin INIs (like in Unofficial Skyrim Patch) are native to the game. INI tweaks is a function of Mod Organizer.

Yeah, but what is the hierarchy of it? We had a discussion a while ago, but I didn't keep up with it.

Yeah, but what is the hierarchy of it? We had a discussion a while ago, but I didn't keep up with it.

That is something I haven't tested, but shouldn't be hard to test. I've never had reason to have an ini tweak that had different information in it than a plugin INI. I do know MO loads plugin INIs. I do not know what a plugin ini or an ini tweak would do if it modified the archive lists while MO handles archives, but I assume nothing good. These are all things that simply should never need to be researched ::P:

I don't remember any answer to the hierarchy question, will have to investigate.
