Black screen upon attempting to launch SKSE

DuckPuns

Question

I am having a huge problem and have spent hours trying to find an answer and dont realize if I just havent done the mright or what but looked at everything and nothing has worked. As the name suggests the problem is I am getting a black screen upon trying to run SKSE and I have everything in order no exclamation points in triangles or anything but it still wont work. I cant even exit unless I do Ctrl Alt and Delete and restarting my computer. Please help me anyone I really wanted to get back into Skyrim, I have been off for a while. I have reinstalled MO  and (I believe) I uninstalled Realvision unless it has just gone rouge somewhere. I switched from NMM to MO basically right before I stopped playing and I cant recall but I believe I was launching SKSE from MO before taking a break. But I switched because of MMOxReview which probably wasnt the smartest idea based upon my predicament but now I feel there's no going back. Please respond ASAP, thanks. ::|:

There is so much going on in here I don't even know where to start! Okay...

First, how did you switch from NMM? Did you reinstall everything from scratch or did you try to copy things over or use the NMM import feature of MO?

Second, make sure you deleted all of the ENB files. Download RealVision again if you have to in order to check to make sure none of the ENB files/folders in the RealVision mod are left in your Skyrim directory. Make sure you have removed the d3d9.dll and the enbhost.exe files as well.

Third, your Skyrim Data folder should be clean as a whistle when using MO; meaning there are only vanilla files present. Delete everything and verify the game cache via Steam, if you have to in order to make sure it's clean.

Forth, make sure you have SKSE installed correctly in MO: https://wiki.step-project.com/Skyrim_Script_Extender

Been so long I forgot how I got all the mods on I think I logged on using nexus account and it was here because I dont remember downloading anything. I feel as it moved my stuff from NMM over to MO because I dont remember spending hours to redownload all my mods. Also should anything starting with enb be gone or just enbhost.exe? And there was and SKSE already installed when installing Mod Organizer in the tab next to run. Is it valid or no?

hmm... I remember from the very early days of skyrim there was an issue were the game didn't recognize the two DVI ports on my card.... Switching to the other fixed that

If you dont understand this then ignore it:

Try the single link port rather than the dual link

EDIT: I would recommend re-downloading all of them rather than import...

I dont understand what DVI ports so I will ignore it lol guessing it is something that causes the same problem but just a different cause.

Yeah, that import feature is crap and even Tannin (MO creator) doesn't recommend it. Gopher just did a video over it and he doesn't recommend it either. Don't use it! ...but it's a little late now. ::P:

All the ENB files should be removed if you're not using the ENB.

DVI port is the slot on the back of the video card that the cord connects into. That shouldn't be any issue though.

I deleted the data file went back imported nmm mods now in mo it says no plugins but in downloads I haver to redownload all the mods but here is the thing. I dont have any of the main mods like skyrim.esm or anything in plugins or downloads will they just come back if I launch normal skyrim from steam or what?

You have to verify your game cache in Steam. Right-click on Skyrim in your Steam Library. Click on Properties. Go to the Local Files tab at the top of the window that opens. Click on "verify integrity of game cache".

And yes, you'll have to re-download you mods using MO and installing them with MO. That NMM import feature will not work.

I did and it said it would get the items back and they never came back so should I close everything except steam and do it again?

Nevermind I found out it wasnt updating and wasnt getting them back but it did now I will soon get back to whether it worked or not but should I install and activate all my wanted mods yet or try and run it first?

Close Steam completely. Right-click the its icon in the system tray and click Exit. Reopen Steam and do the cache verify again but leave it be. It's downloading the files it needs so if it takes 1hr it takes 1hr. Don't do anything until the files are installed.

In the meantime, are you trying to install STEP or your own personal setup?

I dont really have a certain setup at this point I am just trying stuff out that will give me the game a good graphical look but also keep a smooth framerate but right now I am not sure if I use any graphical enhancements that focus fully/solely on graphics ( I do use CoT and some flora overhauls also have but am not sure if I am going to use Skyrim High Def LODs and unofficial high res patch which I believe wouldnt work before or it was crashing my game. But should I try to run SKSE first or install and activate my wanted mods?

Now looking at what STEP is I am not using/trying it but now that I see it if I get this game working I may try it but as in setup I just install wahtever mods I want or think are cool lol

My best advice to you is to explicitly follow the STEP Guide at least through Section 2.D.Fixes. That will get you up and running stably with all the fixes you need. From there you can use the Guide to help you pick and choose mods that you might want or go your own way. But following the Guide through Section 2.D.Fixes will be your best starting point.
