SkyUI's favorites button stopped working, can't unequip a torch, and the equip/unequip sound is always the sound sheathing.

Hi all. I was getting CTDs last night when I tried to enter a cave so I just decided to delete all my mods and start over. I used the Texture Optimizer, and I used a function that said was experimental and could cause CTDs. I hit the button quickly without seeing the warning right away. Opps! So I decided to just delete all my mods and start over using STEP as a base. I was able to finally get into the cave, a lot of things seem fairly stable now (although I haven't played that long) but something's up with my 'favorites' button on SkyUI. I use a 360 controller and it's usually the back button to bring up the menu. It didn't work. Then I whenever I sheathed/unsheathed anything, it would make the same noise "steel sword" sound noise for equip and both unequip. Now it seems when I equip a torch, I can't unequip it.

I've never been good at load orders and I've been using Loot. Maybe one of you could tell me if something is in the wrong place?

I also don't have the STEP Combined PluginHF.esp that STEP recommended because the lightning bolt on Mod Organizer was grey. Loot gave me an error when it was in the plugins too. That's why that's not there.

I am going to be using MO as a mod manager for this discussion because it is what is accepted on this site.

 

dummy esps is a term used for a black esp that has only one job and that is to load a .bsa.

how this works is a blank plugins like Brawl Bugs CE.esp will only load Brawl Bugs CE.bsa.

Without the esp, the .bsa will not get loaded unless you are using MO and have the correct settings.

 

Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp I believe is the esp that loads the resources for the actual armors and is blank.

 

If you happen to load up Step Combined PluginHF.esp and the plugins below then you should see that all of records from the list below should be present in Step Combined PluginHF.esp.

- SMIM-FurnitureChestSnowFix.esp- SMIM-DragonbornTernFix.esp- SMIM-DungeonsCliffsIceSkirts.esp- SMIM-ShackRoofFixes.esp- SMIM-ShackRoofFixesDragonborn.esp- Slightly Reduced Distance NPC Greetings.esp- dD-No Spinning Death Animation.esp

The STEP patch is something that you should be using because like I have said it does most of the conflict resolution between ALL of the STEP mods for you.

 

Remember: Not everything need to be patched.

Edit: I created a TES5Edit Merged patch. How do I know patches are in there?

Edit: Still having a hard time with this. I have a batched patch and a TES5Edit merged patch and the STEP Combined PluginHF patch.
How do I know what they are patching so I can uncheck the ESPs?

 

 


And how do I create merged patches for AOS, Compendium, CoT? I honestly don't understand even after watching both videos and looking for tutorials online.

This is only really a problem because STEP uses only AOS so the patch carries edits from only AOS rather than the ones from the correct esp.

You have AOS, Compendium, CoT sounds and whatnot. I might be able to put something together.

Some records are going to be from 

 

Are you merging or patching because they are two different things.

 

 


But as far as the patching stuff goes, I'm confused. At this point, I'd pay someone to clean everything up for me because I really just want to play the game. ::(:

 

This will take a little while because you didn't precisely follow step. I can kinda walk you through it but like I said, it does take time to learn this stuff.

 

 


I fixed the sound issue, which was just something stupid I did. I had a follower and I was hearing them sheath and unsheath their weapon. Still can't access the Favorites Menu on SkyUI or unequip a torch.

 

Does skyUI load up correctly?

If not take a look inside the mod folder in MO and see if the files are there.

Sometimes mo will freakout and only have a 1KB file under the name of the plugin file

 

 

There are multiple things going on all at once. I don't really know that to go after first.

Ok there is a lot of redundant stuff going on. 
I don't even know where to start

Brawl Bugs CE.esp
is a dummy esp and is redundant because of Enhanced blood

 

Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp

is also a dummy esp

BlockSparkles.esp
contains only makes one edit and can be added to a patch

aMidianborn_Skyforge_Weapons.esp
I don't think is needed because of aMidianBorn_ContentAddon.esp

 

WeaponsArmorFixes_ImmersiveWeapons_Patch.esp
I don't think this is needed at all
 

I believe these will have many conflicts that are hard to patch for but I am unsure.

ELFXEnhancer.esp
ClimatesOfTamriel-Interiors-Warm.esp

 

Weapons & Armor_TrueOrcishWeapons.esp

needs to be after Weapons & Armor Fixes_Remade.esp

I can definitely see that you are going to need to learn how to patch for some mods in the load order. I don't mean go look online for a patch because there isn't one.

Is this going to fix your problem... IDK but first thing is first.

Okay great. You've been really helpful/patient with me and I appreciate it! ::): I'm going to watch this video but a few quick questions. What are "dummy esps" ? Should I disable them? Why is Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp a dummy esp? 

I'm also confused by the Step Combined PluginHF.esp. Does that contain:

- SMIM-FurnitureChestSnowFix.esp- SMIM-DragonbornTernFix.esp- SMIM-DungeonsCliffsIceSkirts.esp- SMIM-ShackRoofFixes.esp- SMIM-ShackRoofFixesDragonborn.esp- Slightly Reduced Distance NPC Greetings.esp- dD-No Spinning Death Animation.esp

That's the one STEP wants me to install but I also have others besides SMIM, and No Death Spinning animation. I don't have a mod that has anything to do with slight reduced distance NPC greetings. Hmm. Will it matter that it's there? Maybe I should skip the STEP patch and make my own from this tutorial you gave me?

SkyUI.esp 3kbEdit: Re-installing didn't change the file sizes.Another edit: I fixed the SkyUI favorites menu button problem. Now I only need to figure out how to unequip a torch once I've selected it. :

p.s.: The problem was that I forgot to re-install my 360 control maps.

They won't unsheathe once I sheath them unless I go back into SkyUI and turn it off myself.Edit: I disabled all my mods besides Alternate Life, started a new game, added a torch with the mod console (which oddly had new, shorter IDs for torches than my old save) but I still can't get the torch to unsheathe. I press the unsheathe button and he stands there with the torch.

Is there any extra mods that you are using that might cause this issue.

Disable all of your extra plugins that step didn't recommend and test

This will narrow the list down.

If it did fine can you list the extra mods by name

 

 

Maybe DoubleYou will poke in and suggest something.
