New Mouse

Hey all I've been researching mice for a bit and I'm still indecisive. I'm currently without a mouse for my laptop which isn't a terrible inconvenience in Skyrim and such but for Starcraft II and Photoshop it is. I used to use a fairly nice wireless mouse from Logitech the V450 and used it for a good 5 or 6 years or so, only having to change the batteries out a few times due to it's 1 year battery life. It's finally been dropped enough times that it doesn't want to work anymore.

So, I'm conflicted. Gaming mouse or general? I do photo editing, video editing, programming, lots of different types of gaming (RTS, Roleplay, MOBA, an FPS or two). I like my Naga Epic (which I've used for 3 years or so) except the cord is inconvenient and the battery only lasts two or three days (plus I have to have the base on my laptop tray and wrap the cord up) but I also have a desktop that needs the mouse as well.

So far I've seen.

Plus a few others. I would like to spend 50 or less. I'd also prefer to have the ability to go BestBuy since they'll price match just about everyone so I wouldn't (likely) have to wait on shipping and could take it with me on my long, long car ride to Thanksgiving dinner.

Suggestions?

I got the g700s. The mouse feels very nice but it needs charging very regularly which is a huge annoyance for me.

@Phaser: The problem with non gaming wireless mice is, that the polling is limited to the USB frequency. Which is 125 Hz ~ 8ms. That's something you will notice when gaming. 2ms should be sufficient. There might be hacks that enable you to overcome that limitation, the gaming mice usually have such features built in.

If someone finds a rechargeable, wireless gaming mouse with good responsiveness, a side scrolling wheel, and a month of battery life, please tell me. I don't need lots of buttons, 1200 dpi and 1ms poll rate is more then anyone ever needs.

The problem with the Naga series (at least on my epic) is the cord is so long and the cord's outer para cord frays easily leaving the smooth shielding; otherwise I might have just gotten a corded one. I was hoping they'd specify the cord length on the sites as I know my Naga Epic's box stated the cord length.

Yeah that is true, the cord's a bit long, but I have all my cords sleeved up in some velcro sleeve I pinched from the Operating Theatres at work. :) All cords in one nice blue sleeve.

Sometimes it pays to work in the Health field... ;)

Seriously though, I have heard a lot of good about the CM Storm Recon. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Mouse_&_Mouse_Pads/Mouse/47880-SGM-4001-KLLW1?gclid=CMTx17vmjMICFVYGvAodCGgAFQ

Or there's always the Razer Orochi which can be used cordless or non.

Amazing, us poor saps down here in Aus. have something that isn't available in the US. Who'd have thought it possible.

The M525 looks like the next installment from my M510. Don't know if I would class it as a good gaming mouse. It does a fairly good job but lacks extra buttons and the like that you might want. There isn't any noticeable lag that I have seen so that's a plus. I would take the 3yr battery life with a pinch of salt. They would've had to made some fantastic adjustments from the 510 to get anywhere near that.

I found their stated battery expectancy pretty much dead on for my V450. As for the extra buttons that's not that big of a deal, I don't use the extra buttons on my Naga that often.

If you are interested in the Recon I could probably buy it and send it over for you. Your call.

I've dealt with Scorptec before and they're usually pretty reliable.

Thanks for the offer but the extra cost would be about as much as a higher tier mouse. I'm thinking the unavailability here in there states is due to the low price it's been listed as $35 and I have a feeling CM is moving out a new mouse to replace  their current line up.

I almost forgot to ask. Has anyone here used the Deathadder, and/or know how long the cord is?

I was a log time fan of Logitech and still am. Although, for the several years years I've been using Gigabyte mice. I had two wireless mice of theirs for my laptop; the ECO600. This mouse was amazing for what I did with it. The adjustable DPI really helps in photoshop work. Battery life was also really great of which I could get 8-12 months out of it before having to change them. It also fit very comfortable in my hand for all-day use. The first one got dropped to many times and had to replace it. The second one work perfectly for about two years and then started having some lag issues.

My recent build (March 2014) is a desktop and I wanted to get away from the wireless because wireless mouse often have issues with desktops due to various reasons. That and I wanted something a bit higher quality for gaming. To my surprise, I found another Gigabyte mouse that was nearly an exact copy of the design of the ECO600 so I knew it would be supper comfortable. It was sports adjustable DPI, programmable buttons, gaming grade footpads (which are still like new), a high grade optical sensor that could spit out up to 3200DPI, and it's made out of rugged materials that after nearly a years worth of use still looks brand new. No sign of wear on the finish, buttons, or anything else. This mouse is the Gigabyte M6900. One might look at the price and completely dismiss for being only $20US, but I wouldn't trade it for any other mouse that I've tried and I've tried several $100 mice over the years. The only thing is, if you're used to the weighted mouse, this one is not. It's slightly bottom heavy in its build, but still fairly lite. Lets face it, for $20 bucks you're not out much if you don't like it.
