Crashing on a completely new game. Scripts are littered with references to mods I don't use.

SolitudeBliss18

Question

I posted about this issue over on the skyrim mods subreddit and was directed to this forum to see if you guys could help.

Essentially what is happening is I start a fresh game with Arthmoor's Alternate Start mod, and I sit and wait for scripts to load, for MCMs to register, the usual stuff. Then usually about ten seconds later the game will crash. This immediately struck me as a scripting problem but here's the thing...

I have EXTENSIVELY tested this load order disabling all my mods and plugging them in ONE BY ONE trying to diagnose the mod causing the issue and there is absolutely no pattern whatsoever! The game decides to crash completely randomly regardless of what mods are in and which are not!! You can tell why I'd be frustrated as this process took hours...

After some help on the reddit forum, we determined that my papyrus log was riddled with references to mods I am not using in my load order. It's as if I am attempting to load an existing save with a completely different load order which I am not. This is a fresh save with a single profile on Mod Organizer that I have been prepping for months in preparation for a Perkus Maximus play through.

I'm hoping someone here could help because myself and others are completely clueless as to how this could've happened!

Here's my modwat.ch: https://modwat.ch/SolitudeBliss18#plugins and here's my latest papyrus crash log if anyone feels especially daring and wants to wade through it: https://pastebin.com/jrpw5dvx

As I mentioned I use Mod Organizer as a mod manager and I run STEP core with several other mods on top of that which I added in groups of ten and stress tested extensively to ensure stability. Unfortunately this issue I'm now experiencing caught me completely off guard...

Thanks in advance to anyone who's read this far and still wants to help. I'm totally in your hands guys because frankly I'm so frustrated with this that I'm done with Skyrim if nobody can't figure this out. Thanks! I'll be playing Shadow of Mordor if anyone needs me lol

The current profile that you are using for this game, did you create it from scratch or create from another profile?

Secondly, have you tried deactivating all the script-heavy mods until after Alternate Start mod has finished its stuff?

Once you have your character set and loaded in the selected location, save the game, quit, activate those mods and then load that save.

I've not had to resort to that myself, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be an issue.

Yes I did create the profile from scratch.

I have not tried this method yet that's interesting. Although I'm not sure if this will solve the problem or not because these bad scripts could still be floating around in the game. but ill certainly give it a try!

Just tried that and no dice, same crash on a fresh save :/ Thanks for the suggestion tho! I'm beginning to think a clean install is in order :(

On the archives tab make sure that MO is managing the BSAs and all BSAs are checked. This is something that can be easily overlooked.

It's set to mangae BSA and All of them are checked :/

Well you could always try running a script cleaner and see how that goes first. But something sounds FUBAR somewhere.

Well that's the thing tho I have tried that and the both cleaners I used didn't detect any problems, plus its a new game each time so there isn't a save to clean, it usually crashes before I can save.

The problem might not be in your MO mod list, it could be in the "real" data folder...  So did you check the physical location of your data folder (\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data) to make sure there are no plugins there except these?

Dawnguard.esm

Dragonborn.esm

HearthFires.esm

Skyrim.esm

HighResTexturePack01/02/03.esp (if using these)

And only these archives?

Dawnguard.bsa
Dragonborn.bsa
HearthFires.bsa
HighResTexturePack01/02/03.bsa (if using these)
Skyrim - Animations.bsa
Skyrim - Interface.bsa
Skyrim - Meshes.bsa
Skyrim - Misc.bsa
Skyrim - Shaders.bsa
Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
Skyrim - Textures.bsa
Skyrim - Voices.bsa
Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa
Update.bsa

All other plugins and archives should be in your MO virtual directories.
