Graphic settings aren't loading when game is launched with FNV4gb though MO

FragBag

Question

I've followed the Fear and Loathing guide to the T up until the point where it asks you to start the game to check if everything is running smoothly. The problem I'm facing is that when the game is launched using the 4gb patch, it opens using a resolution and graphic setting much lower than I've set. When launching the game with NVSE everything runs smoothly. I've also had to use the "-laaexe .\FalloutMO.exe" argument with FNV4gb patch to have the game launch without receiving the child process error. Even after launching the game with the 4gb patch as an executable in MO, the graphic setting stay the same and will still work correctly with launching the game through NVSE. Any ideas?

I would suggest then you re-examine the settings you have for the 4GB patch. Running the game executable via another program with MO, as is the case here -- MO calls 4GB patch which in turn runs the game, shouldn't be touching the settings once they are set.

Have you set the working folder to load incorrect ini files? Or maybe your settings are pointing to the default folder and not to MO's profile set?

Can you clarify this for me? When you say:

when the game is launched using the 4gb patch, it opens using a resolution and graphic setting much lower than I've set.

You do mean you are running the 4GB patch via the MO drop-down Run menu don't you? Not from a shortcut on your desktop that points to the 4GB patch?

It's just I'm a bit confused by what you mean by this:

Even after launching the game with the 4gb patch as an executable in MO, the graphic setting stay the same and will still work correctly with launching the game through NVSE.

Do you mean the 'graphic setting stay the same' as in they are wrongly set or are they the same as when you said:

When launching the game with NVSE everything runs smoothly.

Basically what I'm asking is: are all these attempts to run the game done via MO or are some just with the default shortcuts?

I ask because it shouldn't make a difference to the graphic settings whether you run the vanilla executable, with SKSE, 4GB patch or any other patcher. The settings the game use are defined when you first ran the Fallout launcher and MO uses those settings to make its ini files for use inside the MO UI. Any changes to graphics when launched through MO will be making changes to the profile specific set of ini files and not those in the 'My Documents' folder as per a vanilla set up.

If you are trying to change the graphics setting via the launcher outside of MO, that will have no impact.

  1. Open MO and select the FalloutNV Launcher from the drop-down menu and run it.
  2. Change the graphics settings and quit.
  3. Open MO again and select the 4GB patch from the drop-down menu and then run, the game should be using the settings you just changed

I had been checking the graphic setting originally though the Falloutlauncher via steam(Opps), I just used MO to open the FalloutLauncher executable and was shown the same settings I saw in steam. Besides the FalloutLauncher all other executable have been ran through Mod Organizer. The settings appear to be wrongly set only when launching the 4gb loader through MO. When using MO  to launch any other executable everything works properly. I just tried what you suggested, running the Fallout Launcher through MO, and everything appeared to be in order with the graphic settings. Afterwards, I ran the 4gb Loader again, through MO, and the settings where still not loading.

I ended up coping the plain text from Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini from my documents over the the text in the ini editor inside of MO. After reapplying the tweaks from the guide, everything is running smoothly. Thank you for your help.
