Discussion thread:
Wiseman303's Critter Fixes by wiseman303

From the author as he explains this mod the best:

In Skyrim walking into a butterfly or similar critter will stop you like hitting a solid wall. The Unofficial Patch Project Team fixed that problem in the Unofficial Skyrim and Dawnguard Patches, but the way they fixed it made the critters immune to projectiles. As an avid butterfly hunter in Skyrim this was unacceptable to me, so I redid the collision data in the .nif files. Now the player can pass through the critters while still allowing them to be hit by projectiles and melee attacks.

In addition to the flying critters affected by the unofficial patches, I made the same edits to the fish meshes, so you no longer get shoved around by pond fish or salmon while swimming or wading, but can still do some bow or fireball fishing if the mood strikes you. The dead fish even bob to the surface for easy collecting. While dynamite (fireball) fishing to test the collision effects on fish, I noticed dragonflies caught in the blast would drop and sink to the bottom of the lake. For consistency I have added the option to make all insect remains float like the fish. No more diving to the bottom of a lake to retrieve dragonflies.

Inspired by IsharaMeradin's "monarch Butterflies Get Wing Lift" mod, I created my own fix for the backwards wings on monarch butterflies. My implementation flips the mesh data instead of using a custom transparent texture, so it does not have transparency issues with the butterfly in a jar. I made this an option in case it looks weird with any alternate textures for the monarch butterfly mesh.

I think this is a no-brainer to add to STEP.

From the description it certainly sounds like it is; I'm a little surprised that the UKSP team hasn't looked at it to reevaluate their existing patch.

I don't see why this can't be in USKP. It's pretty much mesh fixes.

I definitely recommend this for STEP Core with the 101 bugs and Salmon and Pondfish replacer options.

Accepted for v2.2.9.1 for Core.

Placing this in Section H due to it needing to be loaded after 101Bugs and Pond Fish. I'm recommending to install all options.

Hi guys

I'm new to modding and STEP and i have a little question about this mod:

Do i have to check all options(101BugsHD Support and PondFish and Salmon Replacer) even if i don't use these mods? They are both not Core Mods.

I'm just a little unsure because the installer remminds me to have them installed.

I see no reason to skip those two mods unless you are planning on using a different texture mod for them. But all in all, the Guide is just a guide and you can pick and choose the mods you desire.

Yeah you are right. Though i'm so indecisive (and inexpirienced) about stuff like that. Hence the reason why i use this great guide :)

It was just the fact with core/non-core.

Thank you

Regarding how this interacts with CACO, which displaces 101Bugs but recommends "Lepidoptera of Skyrim (CACO)": CF should overwrite Lepidiptera, w/o Monarch Wing or 101bugs fixes; see forum reference.

Good day.

I'm installing Critter Fixes right now, and STEP recommends not to select any optional component in the Introduction section (i.e. Overview and Screenshots 01..04). Could somebody point out why that's the case? And what do this components accomplish, exactly?

Thank you all!

It's sort of an oddly designed FOMOD. The selections in the Introduction page don't actually do anything. They're just placed there as a "feature list" of what the mod provides. No files are installed by selecting the boxes.
