Wrye Bash Help

Deathwing514

Question

Hello Step Community,

I currently have installed my Skyrim into my SSD drive (including wrye bash) and would love to move the wrye bash Bash Installer folder which includes all the mods into my secondary hard drive.

Does anyone know how to make this work?

The reason why I would like to move the Wrye Bash Mod folder is because of my limited GB on my SSD (which is 64GB).

I hope for a reply soon. Thanks

I have done this. I have installed steam and Skyrim into d:\games. I installed Wrye Bash into d:\games as well. I can't remember if bash made the mod directory or if I did, but it's d:\ games\skyrim mods\bash installers\bash d:\ games\skyrim mods\bash installers\bain converters d:\ games\skyrim mods\bash mod data

You want to set your ini file to reflect the changes. Especially in the "general" settings

It's been a while since I've done it, so I may have missed something. I think there is a topic in the help file for it also.

You want to set your ini file to reflect the changes, especially in the "general" settings. You'll need to rename bash_default.ini to bash.ini in the d:\games\Wrye Bash\Mopy folder or whatever is appropiate for your installation. This is my ini file.

[General]

;--sOblivionMods is an alternate root directory for Bash Installers and other Bash data.

;    Putting it under the game's install directory can cause performance problems

;    during gameplay, so by default it is placed at the same level as the game folder.

;    Here are the Oblivion and Skyrim defaults, and two other examples.

;sOblivionMods=..\Oblivion Mods

;sOblivionMods=..\Skyrim Mods

;sOblivionMods=C:\Games\Oblivion Mods

;sOblivionMods=C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Mods

sOblivionMods=D:\Games\Skyrim Mods

;--sBashModData is the directory containing data about your mods, ini edits, etc.

;    If using MOM, mTES4 Manager, or other utility to manage multiple installs,

;    you will want to change this to keep the Bash data with your saved games.

;    You'll need to use an absolute path to your saved games folder, so here

;    are the defaults and a few examples.

;sBashModData=..\Oblivion Mods\Bash Mod Data

;sBashModData=..\Skyrim Mods\Bash Mod Data

;sBashModData=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Bash Mod Data

;sBashModData=C:\Users\Wrye\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Mod Data

;sBashModData=C:\Users\Kelly\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Mod Data

;--sInstallersData is the directory containing data about which installers

;    are installed by Wrye Bash. If you changed sBashModData above, you'll

;    probably want to change this one too. Examples:

;sInstallersData=..\Oblivion Mods\Bash Installers\Bash

;sInstallersData=..\Skyrim Mods\Bash Installers\Bash

;sInstallersData=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Bash Installers\Bash

;sInstallersData=C:\Users\Wrye\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Installers\Bash

;sInstallersData=C:\Users\Wrye\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Installers Data

;sInstallersData=C:\Users\Kelly\AppData\Local\Skyrim\Bash Installers Data

;--OblivionPath is the game directory (containing Oblivion.exe, TESV.exe, etc).

;    A "normal" install of Bash will place the Mopy directory in your game directory.

;    Use this argument only if you placed Bash outside of the game directory and the

;    automatic detection and -g command line parameter fail to find the game.

;    If using a relative path, it will be relative to the Mopy directory.

;sOblivionPath=C:\Games\Oblivion

;sOblivionPath=G:\Oblivion

;sOblivionPath=G:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim

sOblivionPath=D:\Games\SteamApps\common\Skyrim

;--User directory arguments.

;  These arguments allow you to specify your user directories in several ways.

;  These are only useful if the regular procedure for getting the user directory fails.

;  And even in that case, the user is probably better off installing win32com.

;--UserPath is the user profile path.

;  May help if HOMEDRIVE and/or HOMEPATH are missing from the user's environment.

;  Example=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye

;sUserPath=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye

;sUserPath=C:\Users\Wrye

;--PersonalPath is the user's personal directory ("My Documents").

;  Should be used in conjunction with either the -l argument or

;  setting sLocalAppDataPath.

;sPersonalPath=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye\My Documents

;sPersonalPath=C:\Users\Wrye\Documents

;--LocalAppDataPath is the user's local application data directory.

;  Should be used in conjunction with either the -p argument or

;  setting sPersonalPath.

;sLocalAppDataPath=C:\Documents and Settings\Wrye\Local Settings\Application Data

;sLocalAppDataPath=C:\Users\Wrye\AppData\Local

Long story short; when the Steam Workshop for Skyrim launched I started downloading (subscribing) to mods like a madman (got about 300 now). You guys can probably imagine the compatibility issues that followed. Needless to say, the result was hours of headaches, trying to find out which mod(s) that made my Skyrim CTD. Sure, like we all know Skyrim, like Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas (games that I LOVE) aren't perfect or 100% stable. I am pretty sure even Bethesda's admitted it. CTD's are somewhat common even with a fresh, unmodded Skyrim or Fallout 3. But enough of that.

Like most people I have Skyrim installed on Steam. I heard that you can only use WB with Skyrim ONLY if it's installed elsewhere, but after reading z929669's guide (https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Wrye_Bash#tab=Pre-installation_Setup), I am not so sure.

Also, like I mentioned, I've got a shitload of mods installed, so:

Can I copy ALL of the mods, (and folders that are related to mods) in my Data folder to a temporary folder, then establish a clean Skyrim install and then copying the old Data folder back into the new, clean Skyrim folder, with nothing happening?

Example: I have installed and completed the "triple A" mod: Moonpath to Elsweyr. Excellent stuff. If I establish a clean Skyrim install, and then move the required files for that mod back into my Data folder, will my character still have the awesome armor that I got in that mod (or any item from any mod for that matter) or will it not be there and I have to play Moonpath again?

Keep in mind that my savefiles for that character are located in the same folder as before the clean install, untouched. So, in theory, since the savefiles are the same old ones, where my character is wearing the Moonpath armor, it SHOULD be like nothing has happened, even after the clean install. But: Is my theory ("old" mod + "old" savefiles = "old" Skyrim) correct?
