Judging by the 1st comparison, I'd say AO is actually turned off somehow in those screens, which result in no shadows. But should be available on other setups (PC

Hopefully it's the same with PBR (which seems really lacking, can't deny that... the armor look like a McDonald toy), and PC users will be able to benefit from it with a few ini tweaks.

Need more screens to talk about LODs imo.

Good points I notice :

It'd seem they finally get arround grass texturing. The grass doesn't pop out of nowhere on roads or in rocks like you sometime see it in Skyrim.

Models seems to have a lot more poly (look at the wire fence on the same screen than the armor) than they used to.

Shadows sharpness look excellent (cf dog picture in the album).

However the ultra-flashy green HUD hurt my eyes, I'd love something a bit more "pastel"...

AO is not shadow maps. Shadow maps are clearly missing. I doubt PBR will benefit from just INI tweaks, but I can't comment on that yet. The fence is really low-poly with flat-textured wire. Shadow sharpness on anything but characters is lower-res and more diffused. You can usually change the colour of the HUD and Pip-Boy, but that is it.

Edit: Tech ran off after spending 20 minutes here. He always bails from Fallout threads. ::P: I wanted to hear some more thoughts dammit!

That's because I've never played a Fallout title for any length of time. I usually find several things that annoy the hell out of me to the point that I stop playing.

Textures

I can see some improvements but a lot of the same ol'Bethesda mess at release. The textures, overall, suck. Very little detail to the point that a lot of those shots really reminds me of the Sims. Textures simply look rushed to meet the release deadline. They will probably come out with a high res DLC again after giving the artists some extra time with textures. AA seems to be eh; 4xMSAA? AF looks to be around 8x. The water looks better than it did in Skyrim at release so there seems to have been improvements there. Blood appears to be hooker-red for some reason and there are still blood spatters on the screen. I hate screen spatter for anything because you should be seeing that as if you are looking through a camera. This should only be a thing if you're wearing some type of eye protection (goggles, sunglasses, helmet, etc).

Lighting

Lighting sucks. This is on the console, though, so I'm not sure how harsh to judge knowing consoles are more limited than PCs. AO is terrible, if even present. Shadows are just lacking overall. That hazy bloom in exterior is way over played and needs to go away. This title will definitely benefit from ENBSeries.

I did say I would like thoughts regardless. It's basically the same one that will run the next ES. I agree with what you say, but at launch Beth games are usually the same across-the-board bar distant object detail and shadow distance. Will ENB run on DX11? Also, could you elaborate on what annoys you? All their games feel the same, but with different themes to me.

Oh I know Tech, I have been talking to you for ages now, but I guess if it's not your thing gameplay-wise that is that. I personally like the atmosphere and the radio of course. I like the varity of the unexpected because lore never comes in as much as other fantasy games. I prefer the lore to be as vague as possible to open up more options.

Neo it's not a case of the artists being lazy, it's obviously management and technology. I mean they get around 5 years to work and you would think they could do much more in that time. Development must be painful and slow working with their tools. The only reason Skyrim got a texture pack was because the artists already made them at a larger size originally. I guess the engine coders were told to 'tack' instead of rewrite. It must be annoying being a skilled professional in that environment.

Totally agree it would be hell. Regardless of fault though, its the final product of the studio that matters.

I think they came out and said they don't really care what people think and if people don't want to buy it because of that, they can't force them. That basically sums up my complaints with their mannerisms though. It's not totally the graphics at fault, it's their reluctance to improve their base foundations and structure. I can't count how many times I have seen people complain about bugs and how terrible their engine is. This surely is not good for them, but as I said earlier, they don't care because it sells buckets. In the long-term they are very naive. With the budget and the time they get, people have the right to expect a level of quality far greater than what is usually delivered.

Certainly better, but I don't take anything back I said. Also, those crows are well trained! Anyone know what's going on with that artefacting on the top image though inside and around the light shafts?

Night looks really flat

Water looks like Skyrim implementation and is still less impressive than Fallout 3

Distant LOD for Kesta

Anyone got anything to say at all? I suppose if this was a topic about ES and tweaking said ES game it might have had more interest. By the way these images look clean for PS4 AA wise.
