Landscape LOD Generator tess4ll and MO

darlinggj

Question

"Ultimate resolution landscape LODs and generator tes4ll" by Gruftikus for FNV has just been posted at https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61035/.

This utility seems to complement the Object LOD Generator FNVLODGen available from https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/58562, whose STEP implementation via Mod Organizer is documented at https://wiki.step-project.com/User:EssArrBee/FalloutNewVegas#Running_FNVLODGen .

How would tess4ll be used with Mod Organizer for Fallout New Vegas? Anything like for FNVLodgen and MO for FNV as above (ex. first uncheck "Have MO manage archives")? Or for tess4ll and MO for Oblivion at https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer_Oblivion? And would this generally be a useful exercise?

In the newest version I added an option for data directory in the mpb file (_datadir) and the option to choose an entire installation dir (_tmpdir). These options can be used as an argument in the command in the bat-file (e.g. _tmpdir="C:\somewhere"), files are written there if "overwritelods" is disabled (=removed).

I hope this helps to avoid nasty query-replace in the script itself, because it is quite huge

Okey, I'm terribly sorry but I have no idea where or how to input the "_datadir" or "_tmpdir" command when running it from MO.

I tried adding

_tmpdir="C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Mod Organizer\mods\TES4LL"

at an arbitrary line in the the tes4ll_all.mbp file but that just returned an error. No prior experience with anything like this so I'm just lost trying to make sense of the file.

I ran the four .bat files from Mod Organizer with Arguments and Start In fields blank, and files were generated in the Overwrite folder: first to generate tes4qlod folder to replace the one in Data/, then Meshes and Textures folders from which I created a new "LandscapeLOD" mod. I still don't know whether "Have MO manage archives?" should be checked or not during all this.

Unfortunately, except for Meshes, tess4ll version 5.13 did not output to MO's Overwrite folder, or anywhere else I could tell.

Did you tried to add the option _tmpdir="path-to-somewhere" in the bat-files, and removed "overwritelods"?

That worked: files went to the folder I specified, then I compressed them and installed into Mod Organizer as a mod near the end of my load order (before FNVLODGen's Object LODs).

Earlier attempts to generate a tes4qlod_tex folder from tes4ll_make_texture_cache.bat gave fewer files what I counted in your tes4qlod_tex download, so I used the latter in the above processes (I don't run NMC, POCO Bueno etc, so should be OK?).

So far my outdoor game seems to run pretty smooth, and indeed (with tes4ll_make_colormaps_with_rockyfilter.bat) looks rockier.
