STEP Compilation Core Patch Requirements

Ukerin

Question

I am running a heavily stripped hybrid STEP Core setup that pretty much cuts out most of the "HD" mods or mods that only add aesthetic improvements (e.g. the entire clutter section). I am still wanting the bug fixes and the gameplay/character enhancements. I am wanting (or needing to know if necessary for) it to register as Core Eligible when installing for the Core Patch to be properly installed. If I just manually take the STEP Core Patch.esp out of the zip and load it, there are no missing masters but the installer still says it isn't eligible for Core.

My question is: What mods are required for the STEP Compilation installer to register as being STEP Core Eligible?

I found on the STEP Compilation page a list of the esp files required for the patch, but it doesn't say which mods make the installer eligible (and just those mods are not enough).

For reference, here is my current mod list:

Realvision ENB

2.D: everything except CCO

2.E: Core, iHud and Spinning Emblem

2.F: UHD Fire, Skyfalls w/ FS+WT

2.G: Farmhouse Chimneys w/ FS+WT+LAL+CRF+MaS, Lanterns of Skyrim, Realistic Water Two w/ FS+WT

2.H: Beter Beast Races, Better Freckles, Brows, Cover Khajiits, Female Vampires, ICAIO, Better Males

2.I: Book of Silence, Crossbow Bolts, Elemental Staves

2.J: Core, Dual Wield, EBT, Lightning, Enhanced Camera, Wonders of Weather

2.K: nothing

2.L: everything except IHSS

2.M: Core except Clams and Non-ess Children; added Dual Wield, Thieves Guild, Wet and Cold

2.N: Core Patch, Bashed, BSW, FNIS

If the only thing I need is the patch itself and the esps for the patch, then I should be good. SMIM was an option to choose whether I installed it or not before the Core Eligible screen, so I would assume it is "optional"

It is not optional. SMIM plugins were merged into the STEP Patches. The mod is needed or you'll have missing textures in game.

You can extract the patch and install it with MO somehow. From there if you go to the plugins tab and there is a red triangle next to the plugin then you can see what is missing fro the hovertext.

You'll probably need SMIM too. That is required, but the plugins from it are not. With Realistic Water Two, you can rename the plugin to just "Realistic Water Two.esp" and the STEP Patch will recognize it as the correct version since you have the Falskaar and Wyrmstooth version.

What Ess said above, is why the installer is designed as it is. If you select that you did not install SMIM, then the installer will not allow you to install the Patches because SMIM is required. The installer is designed in such a way that it will only allow you to install the versions that your setup is compatible with. If you bypass any of its functions, you can potentially get CTD at load because you will have missing masters or you can end up with missing assets in the game.

For any user extracting the plugin directly from the archive, I recommend to only do this if they know what they are doing!
