Skyrim Configurator

I have 3 txt files (with preconfigured tweaks) that I initiate within Wrye Bash on every Skyrim reinstall. It does the trick for me' date=' but YMMV.[/quote']

I'm attempting to learn WB with this next install...which is why it's taking me so long to install. I'm checking for updates to all the mods and then since I was manually installing I have to repackage the mods I had already downloaded. I'm almost there though. :D

To be more clear on my previous point, I use preconfigured INIs that use STEP's and some other tweaks that I find useful at the time of testing with the Ultra preset from Skyrim Launcher (bearing in mind that I disable MSAA every time, since it's not efficient in this game):

STEP tweaks [sP].ini (goes in SkyrimPrefs.ini):

[Display]
iBlurDeferredShadowMask=2
bTreesReceiveShadows=1
bDrawLandShadows=1
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=350
bFloatPointRenderTarget=1

[Water]
iWaterReflectHeight=1024
iWaterReflectWidth=1024

[Controls]
bMouseAcceleration=0

STEP tweaks .ini (Skyrim.ini):

[Display]
fSunShadowUpdateTime=0
fSunUpdateThreshold=2.0
fDecalLifetime=750.0

[General]
sIntroSequence=
iLargeIntRefCount=999999
fFlickeringLightDistance=8192

[Combat]
fMagnetismStrafeHeadingMult=0.0
fMagnetismLookingMult=0.0
f1PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PArrowTiltUpAngle=0.7
f1PBoltTiltUpAngle=0.7
f3PBoltTiltUpAngle=0.7

[Camera]
fOverShoulderAddY=0.0
fOverShoulderPosZ=10.0
fOverShoulderPosX=0.0
fOverShoulderCombatAddY=0.0
fOverShoulderCombatPosZ=10.0
fOverShoulderCombatPosX=0.0
fOverShoulderHorseAddY=-72.0
fOverShoulderHorsePosZ=50.0
fOverShoulderHorsePosX=35.0
fActorFadeOutLimit=-100
fMouseWheelZoomSpeed=60.0
f1st3rdSwitchDelay=0.95
iHorseTransitionMillis=001

[Actor]
fVisibleNavmeshMoveDist=12288.0000

[Cart]
fWheelAngDamp=0.1100
fMass=240.0000
fFriction=100.0000
fGravMult=7.0000

Z-fighting fix [sP].ini (currently not used as Z-fighting is not much of an issue for me atm):

[TerrainManager]
fTreeLoadDistance=75000.0000
fBlockMaximumDistance=500000.0000
fBlockLevel1Distance=140000.0000
fBlockLevel0Distance=75000.0000
fSplitDistanceMult=4.0000
bShowLODInEditor=0

[Main]
fSkyCellRefFadeDistance=500000.0000

This way I can quickly switch between the presets without worrying about messing up the main file (since I could simply rebuild the INI files and replace the relevant lines in WB).

I just ran across this mod via a mod review video. They've updated it since the postings here and I'd be interested in seeing how well it plays with everything now. At the very least this could be a great tool to initially set up your INI before manual editing. At the very most and best it could be used to replace most of the manual INI tweaks and launcher settings at the beginning of STEP, essentially combining everything into one tool. It's more user friend for new modders too, though a wiki guide would need to be written for it. I might look into this and see if it'll be able to replace most of the manual tweaking since I've already reset my Skyrim to vanilla...

Change Log since last posting:

1.5.1.1

-added Radial blur level option "off" to turn of radial blur completly

-added donate link to about window

1.5.1

-fixed start up crash when configs were read-only

-added Block distance

-added split distance multiplier

-added sky cell fade distance

-added near distance sliders

-added multi-language support

-added about dialogue

1.5

-added option to disable the intro

-added grass shadow option(doesn't seem to work yet, mailed bethesda about that)

-added "unload cells on fast travel" option

-added "allow screenshots" option

-added file selection option for the launcher

-fixed a bug in the importer

1.4.5.1

-fixed save path corruption

1.4.5

-added export and import window

-added "enable border regions" option

-added Shadow LOD and border region preview handler

He's fixed the read-only crash problem and is looking into the grass shadows.

As Besidilo states, the preferred method for STEP is to use INI Tweaks via Wrye Bash. This is more customizable to STEP, easily distributable and reduces the number of 3rd-party programs needed. We will be creating a pre-configured set ow WB Tweaks.

Also, most INI tweaks advertised are not validated or recommended.

After playing with the tool for a bit, I've decided that I don't like it. The setting are vague unless you know what they are changing or dive into the readme (i did not) and it junks up your INIs with unnecessary values. The good thing is that it backs up your INI before committing the changes. I'll stick to manual edits until I learn WB more.

Hi, I was thinking of adding this as a mod suggestion before finding it here. I found about SC from the 'Mod Sanctuary' recommendation and as I have a weak and puny system it was worth a look. I just made a couple of small changes using it and set it to use all available cores and threads. Then tried it out what I discovered was not apparent at first but I soon discovered something useful.

I had decided to try different graphics packages to see what worked the best as my system struggled mightily with a full STEP install of 2B conflicting graphics. Back before the whole SRO thing blew up Starac (intemperate fellow), suggested a six mod graphic set up which I tried, but really came into its own when I used bethesda HD DLC optimized alongside Skyrim performance files along with the light versions of SRO, Water, SMIM, Dynamic snow and Vurts Flora overhaul, my frame rate soared.

I thought it might be useful to compare screen shots and framerates for these graphics packages alongside a full Step install with the full TPC graphics install to show how much my FPS was affected. Trouble is it didn't work. I was getting 35+ FPS and frequently 50-60 when not too many peaple were milling about on screen. This was even with using full HD versions of everything.

Normally I had 18 - 30 with a full step install including TPC. I was assuming that tpc was the culprit and that my hardware just couldn't handle that much detail. The only change was my use of SC. So now I have a full Step HD install running at over 50 fps - with RCRN and RCRN+.

This is by no means conclusive but just imagine how much more it opens up for low end pcs. I regularly run with well over 200 mods and am using WB.

Anyway I just thought it might be interesting. Obviously the research I was doing with regard to graphics packs is completey pointless thanks to recent "throwing rattle out of pram" action from Himself at SRO.

You will need to supply the before/after INIs you used to make any sense of this. SC is just a fancy INI editor.

I will look into it. To be honest I was not entirely sure what it is supposed to do or where as the information supplied with the mod is somewhat sketchy to say the least, I just played around with it as suggested by Gopher in the video. I flagged it up as a possible point of interest. I'm still learning my way around all the software but I knew my observations were not conclusive in any way. I guess I need to look at what it is doing to the INIs, if I find anything conclusive I'll get back to you.

Edit: Not able to look into it at present as an unkown issue is causing me to have missing textures which is new on me - have done this a whole bunch of times never had the purple blobs.

A bit of a revival post here, but was just wondering if any opinions had changed on this since last post as the thead is quite old.

I quite like SConf as I find that it makes the whole ini tweaking much easier and more user-friendly.

It is quite old though so I don't know if some of it might be out of date - I think the author left some aspects undeveloped. However, for what I use it for, it seems to work very well and you can run it straight from MO so it plays nicely with profiles as far as I can tell.

Anyone using SC these days?
