Just needed to create this topic so I don't go mad trying to make sense of everything I've changed to my liking in these plugins. Too many scripts for a lonesome dreadnought.
First, I owe you some back story. What are these casino overhauls and why do I insist on fighting them? Well, to be honest this kind of has to be the story of every modding adventure I partake in. It starts out with being introduced to a new idea, in this case ACES' Casino Overhaul which SRB said he'd been testing as it looked cool. Well, to me it looked really, really cool. So cool that I had to install it myself and straightaway went ahead in making the New Bison Steve Hotel mod compatible with it, but then I'm already in deep, and I'm halfway convinced that this needs to be in loading order, but I also start seeing all the things that are wrong with it. For example the fact that you now only get to access the Ultra-Luxe Suite after winning 750000 Caps, which, I know, seems massive at first, but then becomes even more of a dread-inducing figure when you account for the fact that the same mod makes winning even harder. The achievement for getting kicked out of all the casinos now require you to have enough money to employ the entirety of the Mojave as your personal royal court for a whole year, and most of the time you won't be able to cash out because the families now operate a credit scam in addition to all the other things they have going on.
Excuse me... What? Why does these mods insist on having such great ideas and then touching everything else while they're at it. Obviously so I'd have something to do with my time.
So here's what I've done so far:
- Reduced the maximum winnings, and thus also the comp levels, at 25%, 50% and 75%, to three times the vanilla amount, with the sole exception being The Vikki and Vance, which is double the vanilla value. The original values in the mod were increased as far as 6666% in the case of the Ultra-Luxe, and were overall filled with discrepancies. - Reduced the max and minimum bet amount to be consistent with the difference in max and comp winnings between the different casinos. The high/low table functionality has been kept intact as this was a cool idea, it just used wildly inconsistent numbers. Had to dig through a lot of scripts for this, so I hope I got them all, if someone knows what the "average bet" value set in the scripts are for that could also prove useful, as I tried to maintain the same ratio between the min/max bet and average bet, but they seem to have arbitrary relations. - Changed the comp bonuses to be more in line with the higher required winnings, as well as the the original flavor of each casino. The Gomorrah will no longer give two Brahmin Steaks as its first comp reward, when it's the second reward in the Tops for example. These things are at least consistent with each other, meaning that the the higher winnings required, the higher the rewards. - Removed the option to cash in for anything higher than 25000 chips (max winnings at the Ultra-Luxe with 300% increase is 45000). - Fixed the blackjack challenges to start disabled, as was intended, and removed the recurring effect from some of the higher level challenges. Also made them more consistent across different games, and more adapted to the new casino limits, including new experience changes where they each give less experience than the original ones to make up for the larger amount in total. - Forwarded fixes from Yukichigai's More Caravan Players - Restoration, meaning ACES no longer overwrites its changes - Used Machienzo's assets to change the cards used at the casino tables to be different from the ones used in the caravan decks, also avoided a mistake Machienzo had in his Regional Slots mod where some tables had two different card types. The basis for the new cards are the ones included in the FNV Collector's edition - Used Machienzo's assets to give the Platinum Chip a major texture overhaul. Looks like the one included in the FNV Collector's edition now.
And here's what I'd like to do:
- Use the same functionality that the ACES - Casino Overhaul uses in my own The New New Bison Steve mod (overhauls The New Bison Steve Hotel mod). The description says it should be easy, he even advertised it as a feature, but he forgot to write how... UPDATE: Think I know how to do this and will probably include custom playing cards as well, like I planned for the other casinos. - Possibly adopt the same functionality that Casino Exchange All has with the new cashier scripts, and in any case try to have the same system in NNBS.
Pretty tired right now so I might have missed some things I did, and most likely forgot some things I wanted to do. Any input is, as always, welcome.
