Curious why did you remove Rainbows?

said i wasn't working on this anymore & made my final post but I want to have a good running version of skyrim before I install it to my friends computers so I'm still at it.

I removed rainbows because currently I have my slider settings to the 'high' preset with object detail fade on, rainbows needs a minimum of 10 on the object fade slider (or you can't see them), and its only 7 on the high setting. I'm also now running the project enb performance patch, which does even less then the noDOF+noSSAO version; it forces 8xAF which I tweaked the ini to force 16x instead & i've picked no AA & no AF from the launcher & decided not to tweak the shadows etc in skyrimprefs.ini after doing so which seems to have helped. I'm also using FXAA.

& have removed monster wars because it was killing essential guards & freezing the game during battles sometimes & removed airborne perching birds because sometimes it put frozen birds in the sky that didn't fly or move or anything. I've removed heaps of mods to get a working version of the game and have succeeded in that respect & will be able to install it to my friends computers and then later when I feel like it I'll see which of the other mods I had installed before can be put back into the game without causing problems.

most of the 'light' mods like better quest books etc are going back in the game for testing to see if there's a problem with simply having too many mods for skyrim to function properly or if it was indeed specific mods causing the problems. For e.g. deadly combat giants ai fix seems to make farkas not fight the giant when you first visit whiterun because after removing this mod he started fighting again. Removing bloody facials & bloodier combat also fixed a visual thing where farkas would be blacked out with blood from fight before you even get close to the fight which looked bad, shame because the enhanced blood+bloodier combat+bloody facials 90% of the time looked awesome, but since removing them I've had less to zero crashes from fights. the wolves fight on the way to skyrim doesn't stress the pc as much either which leads me to believe that the blood mods & the real wildlife mods were to blame. Also I removed all those dragon mods as there was a dragon sitting on its ass not doing anything near the standing stones on the way to whiterun and kicks your ass if it sees you. I may try installing one or two of the dragon mods i removed again but deadly dragons & dragon lords will do for now.

Peace.

P.S) if your game stutters when you first load a saved game, save straight away after loading it, then load that new save & the stutters go away.

P.P.S) going to try rainbows again one more time

p.p.p.s) just found out that the dragon sitting on its ass was bellyaches new dragon species, and is meant to be grounded so you don't have to fight it unless you want to. Think I'll reinstall this one too. just found out there's conflicts with the new deadly dragons & dragons diversified & mighty dragons only has a compat' patch for both of these together so dragons diversified & mighty dragons don't make the cut.

Some of the following changes may have already been covered earlier in this thread but its hard to keep track of it all so here's the recent changes made to the install; the more I explore skyrim and play the game the more I learn about different mods & can fine tune the modlist for a (hopefully) perfectly running game with zero crashes or freeze ups. so far so good. here are the new changes.

  • Updated Cannabis mod
  • updated enhanced blood textures to 3.0a
  • retested & again removed bloody facials, just doesn't seem to work with enhanced blood textures well
  • discovered that the revenge of collette mod - magic stances, etc doesn't uninstall properly & is the cause of the freeze ups during magic combat I was experiencing earlier - with that in mind I'm trying out the deadly spell impacts esp again to see if it is ok to use. also recommend never to install the revenge of collette mod
  • removed quieter dog sounds - too quiet to hear
  • updated monster mod to v12, retested with latest monster wars, removed monster wars due to CTDs - also using monster hunter add on
  • retested and removed bellyaches new dragon species - ctds & high level dragons from the start of the game also removed all other dragon mods except deadly dragons & dragonlords after realizing deadly dragons does the job well on its own & dragon lords has never caused me problems before
  • added extra wolferoo recipes that I left out before
  • adjusted graphics settings & enb (again)
  • replaced psyrim with vanilla music then added fantasy overhaul, after trying out all 3 fantasy music overhaul is worth keeping
  • tried game with/without warzones, game runs well with low spawns, decided to keep
  • considered real wildlife reinstall but too buggy & incompatible with warzones
  • removed supreme storms & real rain - removed due to ctd's may install again later for more testing when I get other bugs sorted out
  • added latest super skyrim bros - should be more fun with latest updates i.e coin collecting system is better, riverwood bug fixed etc
  • added sweeping one handed & two handed lite - will improve combat alot and compatible with deadly combat
  • removed throwing weapons & its a trap - both are buggy & overpowered, I also removed killing traps once I discovered that if a companion accidentally bumps into a large rock trap, they die, which is stupid
  • removed hardcore lockpicking - too hard and not really fun - I'm all for immersion mods but not when they makes the game no fun to play - would be alright if it didn't require points on the lockpicking skill just to open chests in dungeons at start of game
  • removed ingredients of tamriel - 200ish items added rather then the 1200 I initially thought, retextures only no new meshes & overpowered potions, decided the game didn't need it

added the following without any problems so far -

  • spouse to custom home,
  • rainbows,
  • smash it up functional mills,
  • SIDT,
  • roosters at dawn,
  • realistic werewolf speed,
  • cats & dogs of skyrim (even with bugs it adds atmosphere),
  • skybirds (even with bugs it adds atmosphere),
  • skippys book overhaul (more skill books),
  • pumping iron,
  • more village animals,
  • more locked containers,
  • less lockpicks,
  • MECR classic nord shields,
  • known spells,
  • clams drop pearls,
  • bucklers complete,
  • hold borders + all roads map,
  • erso lower skill gain,
  • expensive investments,
  • fires hurt,
  • bring out your dead,
  • TAVE riften,
  • beautiful+realistic
  • whiterun,
  • back off barbas,
  • armored skeletons,
  • horns are forever,
  • nirnroots silenced,
  • more firewood per chop,
  • soul taker sound mod,
  • disease descriptions,
  • PTalchemy & food overhaul (alchemy only version plus skillgain % esp)
  • dual wield blocking animation
  • auto unequip arrows
  • cheskos lore based loading screens
  • black sacrament armor
  • skyrim coin replacer
  • drop lit torches
  • tera armors (removed the leveled list esp due to npc's with invisible armor but still testing other esps & the esm)
  • tribunal robes & masks
  • wearable lanterns (main only, not the guards add on)
  • guards guard the player (they now guard against hired thug attacks)
  • heavy armoury
  • midian born helm of yngol
  • 3rd era weapons MoS version
  • FNIS (needed for latest version of cannabis mod)
  • bullseye to dragonslayer perk
  • CoT warm interiors & lvl 1 vanilla nights + lanterns of skyrim lvl 1 vanilla nights
  • erso - standing stones, training cost 2x, lower level gain, Rus thieves & assassins, Rus travellers, rus werewolves, slightly mighy dragon priests

Using ENB 119 with Project ENB cinematic & performance plus option -

was using skyrealism with SSAO & DOF switched off, but the differences with it on or off where barely noticable & the game seems to run better in general using project enb with the same options activated so I switched to project enb & am no longer getting the crashes I was before. I find I actually prefer the colour/tone changes provided by project enb compared to the vanilla style look of skyrealism once you take SSAO & DOF out of the picture.

Card graphics settings= as recommended by step & AA+AF set to 'use application settings'.

Launcher Graphics Settings - AA=4x, AF=none (forced by project enb to 16x), textures, radial blur & shadows set to high, decals set to ultra, no fxaa, all reflections

Launcher Slider settings (starting at the top left with object fade) - 10, 9, 7, 10, 25, 8  object detail ultra, object detail fade on.

If experiencing crashes during combat in dense forest areas like the lake near riften & the surrounding area while using the above settings you can optimize your textures with the optimzer on the minimum/skyrim setting, activating also the texture resize option and setting it to "if >2048". remember to backup your textures folder first so that you can add back the hi-res textures for areas of the game where they aren't causing trouble i.e. NPC clothes textures or indoor architecture, etc. its usually enemy & landscape textures that seem to cause my game to stutter, freeze or crash.

Screenshots on the way. Also when I am finished tweaking this mod install I'll do another post like the first one listing every mesh/sound/texture replacer, script/skse/asi/interface mods/replacers & all the esm/esp mods. I've made many changes to the first list posted and the next time I post a full list it will be one that works 100%.

Peace. :)

I find these results strange as SkyRealism has always been the most stable and performance easy ENB that I've tested. I've got this same feedback from all others that have used SkyRealism as well to support my testing....until now. :? You're honestly the first I have heard that had issues with SkyRealism other than not liking the presets.

did any of them manually disable SSAO & DOF from the ini and manually activate forced anistropic filtering from the .ini?

because I believe thats part of the cause of the ctds/freezes I was experiencing. skyrealism by default isn't configured for forced anistropic or no ssao, no dof. It also has detailed shadows & vinigrette (black bars) activated by default. If you use project enb cinematic + extreme performance patch, it has detailed shadows, black bars, dof & ssao disabled by default. the only tweak I have to make for project enb+extreme performance patch is to change forced anistropic from 8x to 16x. maybe its a placebo effect but I trusted project enb to run better due to the less tweaks needed, & less active enhancements then skyrealism, it also states in the project enb readme that it can handle the anistropic better then the skyrim game itself & has indepth instructions regarding install & the performance options. So i find having the more comprehensive readme & options available with project reassuring also. For me the DOF from skyrealism & the black bars was what I found appealing about it, so when I found I had to disable DOF in order to play the game both due to CTDs/freezes and simply it being distracting during combat, I went back to project enb. I also find the nights are brighter in project enb then they are in skyrealism and this suits me also. I like the added darkness of CoT, but found it too difficult to get a setting I liked using skyrealism.

Peace :)

P.S) in terms of crashes skyrealism was fine 99% of the time. but when i was using it with the aforementioned tweaks in the dense forest of the rift, with the monster mod+monster wars, wars in skyrim & bellyaches new dragons mod active, I had a dragon from bellyaches mod fly into the air this activated about 20 or so enemies in the nearby area and as all the red dots appeared on the compass the game crashed. I also was riding a horse at the time & had one companion on a horse as i was trying out the horse combat features of convenient horses. I had to adjust wars in skyrim to low spawns, remove monster wars completely & revert to the project enb+extreme performance patch to stop the crashes. then I removed bellyaches mod completely, though while it was active it was a good way to test what the game could handle in terms of massive battles involving many npcs beyond the view distance slider ranges that were being activated for battle due to the dragon flying around; it was a good stress test for the game. so switching back to project enb was part of a solution for a specific problem I was having i.e. dragons+new npc/enemy mods+horses & companions, but one that was likely to occur alot while playing the game.

also I hadn't optimized the textures at that point either so I haven't tested the 2 enbs in that area of the map with optimized textures yet. though i'd need a dragon flying around to properly stress test the game. Also I was trying to use a magic stance from the collettes magic mod with the mod disabled (it doesn't uninstall properly & I thought I still had it installed as I still had the magic stance available to use in game) and that too may have caused/contributed to the crashes/freeze's I was getting at the time. I can't be sure till I do some more testing.

I don't think most, including myself, had such a heavily modded Skyrim and none that I'm aware of used the Monster Mod/wars (most of them were Steppers and most followed the STEP view of staying vanilla friendly). Personally, I dislike DOF so I turn it off anyways. I also disable SSAO and change the bloom quality to 1 if it isn't already. None that I know of were using the forced AF in the enbseries though, because regardless of what Boris says, most research has found it to be more stable to force it through the video card instead (I have done this to 16x AF using nVidia Inspector). I dare say that might have been one of your issues. Did you try it both ways? Forcing through ENB and then through the video card to see it the card forcing was more stable? No need to do so if you didn't...I'm merely curious. Detailed shadows have never been an issue from what I've heard and I have disable the vinigrette bars also because I don't like them either.

made a stupid mistake - didn't bother to check for certain which mod introduced the casting forms/magic stances, turns out it was ace - magic and not collettes revenge. So of course it wasn't that collettes revenge was causing the freezing & wouldn't uninstall properly, it was that it wasn't the mod in question XD

will test further to see if the casting forms are causing the freezing but I don't seem to get freezes if i use magic without them activated so I think for some reason they are.

peace. :)

I don't think most' date=' including myself, had such a heavily modded Skyrim and none that I'm aware of used the Monster Mod/wars (most of them were Steppers and most followed the STEP view of staying vanilla friendly). Detailed shadows have never been an issue from what I've heard and I have disable the vinigrette bars also because I don't like them either.[/quote']

well that's interesting to say the least, thankyou for the information. I just noticed that the recommendations for ati users according to step aren't what I've been using anyway (I have an amd radeon hd6970) so I will try the settings recommended and see what happens.

Peace :)

trying out skyrealism again, I did the amd card tweaks as step instructs then while testing I had a freeze at jeremiahs camp (camping lite mod) near whiterun while using project enb, switched back to skyrealism no freezing or crashes yet. not using ssao, black bars or dof. now I'm in whiterun and having really weird parallax issues around the skyforge. a while ago I backed up my textures folder & optimized the textures when my game was running poorly, and then reverted back to the back up higher res textures again when I got it running good again; I thought this might be the cause so I copied over the architecture meshes & textures from the texture pack combiner folder which should fix any issues caused by optimization or replacing textures. but I'm still getting the weird effects.

here are some screenshots of the problem, look at the upside down pyramid shape that appears and dissapears on the texture directly above the skyforge, this texture scrolls upward on that mesh surface as you move left and right while looking at it. the curved pillar things on the left and the right of the skyforge also have a scrolling texture effect. it doesn't look right when close or far from the objects & doesn't seem a natural parallax effect, at least when compared to effects seen on walls & the ground around whiterun.

Any ideas whats going on there?

EDIT- actually after running around whiterun checking the parallax on the walls etc, they all seem stuffed up, scrolling wall textures etc, not sure how to fix it...

To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm suppose to be seeing. I'm sure the still shots don't portray what you're describing enough for me to understand. I will tell you that STEP decided not to include the parallax textures because of issues, especially when combined with ENB. There is an ENB setting that is suppose to fix the parallax issues, but I've never tested it because I've never used the parallax textures. You'll find it under [FIX] in your enbseries.ini file. The parameter is FixParallaxBugs=(false, true). Setting this to true is suppose to change the shaders used for parallax textures allowing the ENB to render the textures correctly.

damn, wish I'd gotten to your post before deciding to do a fresh install -_- but the game bugged out completely anyway, it always does if i add/remove too many mods, probably something to do with adding and removing scripts or something else I don't fully understand. Thankyou for the reply, I think I'm going to save myself future headaches and remove parallax also.

Peace.
