What comes first: SKSE or Update.esm etc.?

Scipio

Question

Hello everyone,

my last Step-Installation was long ago, so I would call myself again a newbie...

I finished the installation up to section "2.D - Fixes", but I don't know, if I installed everything right so far.

If I follow the "rules", I have to install "Section 2.C - Extenders" (ENBoost, FISS, SKSE...) first, then "Section 2.D - Fixes", but when I am reading the detailed information (cleaning Update.esm, Dawnguard, Hearthfires etc.), Dawnguard, Hearhfires, Dragonborn (+ patches up to STEP Vanilla Optimized Textures) should be installed first followed by "Appropriately Attired Jarls".

So, what's the right way to go?

To directly answer the question in your post's title:

It doesn't matter!

The 'mods' listed in MO's left pane are purely a MO thing, all that is being presented is the name of the supplying folder in MO's installation. Since there are no plugins, *.ESP or *.ESM files, that may conflict with Update.esm it makes no difference.

Of course with other mods it may make such a difference but the provided example, no, it doesn't.

Hi, I'm still unsure about this topic.

As you said, the .esm files are irrelevant, but then for USLEEP, the guide indicates "This mod should follow Cleaned Dragonborn ESM", and USLEEP contains a .bsa file. So, should SKSE Scripts/FISS/Papyrus preceed USLEEP? If not, the same doubt applies to the High Res patches, since they "should be listed after USLEEP", and so on.

Thanks
