MO deleting itself / does not run

Kawazawu1

Question

Hi, so i have been using MO for months now and everything has been working perfectly fine - however, 2 weeks ago my pc had an update from windows (this is where i believe the problem to lie in), ever since that update, my MO will delete itself from my pc - by this i mean, it wont open. I will install it to every detail of the installation and it will work fine, then around 24-48 hours later i will go to open the short cut on my desktop and/or the pin on my taskbar and the task bar will say "this short cut no longer works, would you like to delete this short cut", after trying on the desktop it will say "MO has failed to start because it could not find the Qt platform plugin 'windows' reinstalling the application may fix this problem". So i reinstalled it, this has happened now 3 times where MO has all of a sudden stopped opening.

I have seen a similar post on this forum where someone else had similar problems where his MO would stop working for some reason and (im not sure who the guy was, i dont know if he was a developer or another modder etc) was stumped also.

I have no idea what to do but if anyone knows how to help or knows someone who might be able to help fix this problem then i will be more than grateful, thanks so much for your time and have a good day. :)

MO will not delete itself. This is the function of an antivirus program most likely. Because of the way MO has to work, hooking into an executable, it looks to an A/V program as a being a problem. They will delete the offending application. Check your A/V program to see if MO has been quarantined. and if it has been set a rule to exclude it.

When you download MO you have to right click the file and select properties and unblock it. It should help to keep this from happening.

Ah awesome, I did have a look at my AV and see if that was removing it, i checked the quarantined section as well but it wasnt there, i also then added an exclusion on MO and it still got removed - however, i will have a more thorough check around my AV and I will reinstall the way you have said.

Thanks guys :)

Before I start, I'd like to apologise if I have written this in the wrong post.

But on my end, after changing my hard drive (with every MO2 files in it) from D:/ to E:/, starting MO2 makes the following message appear.

"failed to set up data path"

Of course, it tried to create it's own files in D:/ (which no longer exists and has been replaced by E:/) while the existing ones already existed, but in E:/

However, after having followed many tutorials on youtube and other forums, I do not want to reinstall all my mods and MO2, and since I cannot start MO2 at all, I cannot set up the data paths from the program itself. So I would like to know what I really have to do.

Thanks in advance, and if it's required, I will send screenshots, even though there is not much to see except the error message and MO2's files.

Edit ModOrganizer.ini and fix any of the paths that changed and you should be good. At least this is all I've ever had to do when moving Mod Organizer in portable mode.

Thanks a lot! I needed that! You saved my weekend and my holidays, I can't thank you enough!
