Quick question for TexGen usage

Virenengel

Question

Hello to all

In the past i used DynDolod (and it works great - HUGE thanks to the creator) but for my own dumb reasons decided not to keep it any further. (One of them is the performance hit i got)

I read around a lot of discussions on the subject of using DynDolod ... and to not bother anyone any further.

I could not find any straight info on the subject of using only TexGen to just generate textures from my current graphical mods that are used. The thing that i cannot really get is - Do I need DynDolod Resources and LOD packs for my currently installed graphical overhauls to generate only textures with TexGen or I don`t need them and just start TexGen ... wait for the magic to happen and install the output ?

And as a side question ... After a generated output from DynDolod and Texgen is installed ... do I keep the same files (the resources and the lod packs) in the load order or they are not needed ?

Thanks in advance!

DynDOLOD has no performance hit. The LOD you choose to generate has a performance hit.

From the Nexus description:

DynDOLOD offers a plethora of settings and options, the visual result and performance impact is fully at the hands of the enthusiast modder. There is already a wealth of information how to fine tune every aspect in the included documents. Yes, that means if the game runs worse after using this you doing it wrong :p

From the FAQ

FAQ: Game: Performance

A: DynDOLOD is a set of tools that generates a LOD mod based on the load order and options/settings made by the user. The visual results and the performance impact are what the user chooses it to be. The resource requirements can be less, same or more than the vanilla game while the visual result is always vastly superior.
A: There are 3 presets: Low - almost none. Medium - like SkyFalls + SDO but 1000x better visuals. High - certainly yes. RTFM to adjust every detail yourself.

TexGen is a tool to update a select list of object LOD textures that used by DynDOLOD to create the object LOD textures atlas. typically, there is no need for updated object LOD textures in the load order if you do not generate LOD with DynDOLOD. In case of LOD generated by DynDOLOD the (updated) object LOD textures should be kept as there are cases they might be used directly, for example for dynamic LOD.

Not using DynDOLOD to generate object and tree LOD that are suitable for your setup and needs is "dumb". It is very likely that any other reasons not to use the improved object and tree LODs are easily solvable as well.

Hey

"DynDOLOD has no performance hit. The LOD you choose to generate has a performance hit." < My mistake! I apologize for that.

Hanging out with half the Creative Assembly development team in my country, I kind of expected that type of answer.

My fault! I did not explain in my own idiotic way what is my issue really.

Yes ... not using DynDOLOD is I guess dumb. But ... as a designer who just want to play with a little bit of flavor I do dumb things :)

My game mods are only textures  and no meshes ... the 2 mods that maybe have different LOD than vanilla are "Enhanced vanilla trees" and "Majestic mountains". The rest are textures over vanilla meshes ... some of those textures (on buildings mostly) are not displayed properly from a distance. And that is why I was wondering if TexGen could help ... nothing else is really bothering me that much mainly because my gpu is 1070ti and still there is frame drop when I generate LOD (I am sure that I`m doing something wrong with the lod generation).

Anyways ... thank for the answer man and kind regards! :)

Terrain/object/tree LOD only works properly for the load order it was generated for. Generating it for just one mod is not how it works.

If wrong/broken/non-matching LODs bothers you, use DynDOLOD to generate correct/not broken/matching LODs for the load order. With better, same or worse performance than vanilla LOD.

If the setup can run vanilla LOD, it can run LOD generated by DynDOLOD, obviously.
