TES5Edit 4.0.2 Problem

Best Answer GSDFan , 18 March 2019 - 08:22 PM

You have to make a new shortcut to Tes5Edit and specify "-quickclean" as an argument. This will run the program in the cleaning mode for a selected mod.

Im having problem at the step 2.B. of the guide, when the guide says:

"Wait for Background Loader: finished to be displayed in the right panel, and then right-click on Update.esm and select [Apply Filter For Cleaning]. "

When I do this in TES5Edit there are 2 problems:
1. There are 2 options
"Apply Filter for Cleaning" and "Apply Filter for Cleaning (Selected files Only)"

2. Dont matter which option I choose the program doesn't do anything and instead show me this message:

"This function has been made obsolete by the introduction of Quick Auto Clean mode.
If you have used this function because you were following a guide, please be aware that the guide is outdated and no longer apllies...)

What should I do now?
Please answer ASAP.

EDIT: Dont know why the text have this weird gray background.

Can I edit the current shortcut in MO and add the argument?
And there's already one argument there, how do I add another one? Should I use " ; "?

EDIT: There's a ETA on the update for the guide? I guess I will wait until its updated, I have some history in mess everything while trying to install STEP lol

I handle this by adding a new "TESVEdit Quick Clean" executable that has the -quickclean argument. This way you can run "TESVEdit" to do normal stuff or run "TESVEdit Quick Clean" to clean the DLCs.

Why are tool authors insisting on making things more difficult than they need to be? Seriously...

But I dont want to auto clean things, I want to manually do it just like the guide tell me to do so.

Unfortunately, that option appears not to be one - I know that the guide (when it updates) will reflect this change. The AutoClean will take care of the same problems, so start from there. For additional clarification, go visit the Discord... there are a number of people there who can give more specific guidance for working with this new method.

I think he means the xEdit discord (https://discord.gg/5t8RnNQ) posted on the xEdit docs page (https://tes5edit.github.io/docs/).

Yes, I did, and thanks for the link, Greg - I didn't have it handy at the time.

Thanks guys I hope everything works out fine lol

If I may I would like to request that someone please make a guide with STEP for Skyrim Special Edition, or update the Skyrim STEP guide.

Thanks for all the help :)

That is sorta halfway in progress already. STEP 3.0 for LE is still the priority, as I understand it, but once that's released Tech and company will work on an SE version... Tech has his own quasi-Guide for SE as it it, though it's somewhat incomplete, out of date, and not really ready for full usage, though some are. If you are looking for a challenge, I'd point you over to Lexy's SE guide... it's a bear to set up if you aren't familiar with the tools and usages, but the results are the most solid heavy modded version of Skyrim I've yet seen.
