Inconsistencies with Character Appearance Mods?

Recommended Posts

I’m still working through this guide for the first time, and I noticed some possible inconsistencies in the Character Appearance mod list. If I am not understanding something, please correct me so I can learn, but if not, there may be some tweaks needed in the guide.

The inconsistencies are in regards to the “Tempered Skins for Females - UNP†mod. As far as I can tell, Tempered Skins for Females is a skin texture for UNP that comes packaged with the UNP body meshes. The last body option in the FOMOD seems to apply the new textures to the vanilla body, but the STEP guide recommends “A7 - Bikini type IVâ€, which seems to use the UNP body mesh, unless the FOMOD is misleading. Despite recommending a UNP body, the guide soon after includes the “Vanilla Body with UNP Textures†mod, which the author specifically says is meant for the vanilla body mesh and should not be used alongside the UNP body mesh.

It seems to me like it may be better to drop “Vanilla Body with UNP Textures†mod and instead include “UNP Body Fit Armors and Clothing†(https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/11136), which would refit the vanilla outfit meshes to UNP (and has patches for WACCF and ACE I believe).

There’s also some mismatch between the selections for Tempered Males and Females and the steps for installing “FAR - Forgotten Argonian Rootsâ€.

Tech has been looking more closely at this:

I went back in to understand why were not using the vanilla mesh for Tempered Skins for Females. It's because if you use it, you'll end up with all the nasty gaps in the body mesh from vanilla.

Now, as for "Vanilla Body with UNP Textures" mod, I think we can probably drop it. I didn't see any difference with/without it present. It seems that Tempered updated at some point and included all the pretty things that VB w/ UNP fixed. However, this really needs to be tested with armors to ensure there aren't any issues there before doing so. I never play as a female character so I haven't looked that them much. However, there haven't been any reports of gaps or other issues so far.

... so if you want to test out “UNP Body Fit Armors and Clothing” and/or test the current vanilla armors and clothing with the UNP mesh we are recommending, that would be great. We haven't seen any issues with current STEP vanilla armors on the UNP body without "Vanilla Body with UNP Textures".

To be specific, I've tested most of the armors. The only thing users will not get is the slimmer body of UNP when equipping armor. This is mostly unnoticeable due to the bulkiness of the armor, however, users may notice it on the slimmer, closer fitting armors like the Shrouded Armor. But as far as real issues like seams and gaps...I didn't see any.

In all likelihood, Vanilla Body with UNP Textures is no longer needed.
