Bigger and Boulder - Mountain and Wet Rock Customization (by SparrowPrince)

Well I hate creating threads for my own stuff, but I was expecting this mod to fall under the sea of other similar mods. It's just a rock mod that I created for myself and then uploaded. The title is just a massive bad joke ect. :D Anyway, yeah the normal maps are pretty similar to Terrain Bump, but the clarity is probably higher. I packed in a load of detail (see the comparison on the page) and it uses custom source textures that I personally acquired. I'm thinking about expanding it, but I'm not sure as it was made ages ago.

There's a link at the bottom to my Steam guy who hosts my files there. I don't like Workshop. ;)

Mod compares: The compares are on my DropBox, and each is named according to the compare. The sequence of the compares is also shown below. Vanilla reference is not done yet, so everything begins now with AOF. Vanilla is only a reference for how rocks and mountains are intended to look in vanilla.

GALLERY:

Each set is:

Vanilla  >  Vanilla + SMIM  >  Vanilla + SMIM + Better Rocks & Mountains  >  Vanilla + SMIM + No Stretching

Well aside from the sad fact that I cannot/do not want to, use that high resolutions for something as mundane as a rock, then they do look very nice!

As you say then 1k might just not make enough of an impact, but sadly that is the limit for exterior stuff like rocks and trees! At least for me!

Other then that then it is always a pleasure to see more or your work! Keep it up!

Well that is fair enough. I certainly don't use the 4k version myself. I could do a 1k version, but to be honest I have not been asked at all. Fallout 3 had 2k rock textures as default, but I suppose the setting is pretty different (still a lot of rocks though!).

Thanks. :)

They are quite beautiful; however' date=' because of the 4GB RAM limit STEP is capping most exterior textures at 1K (sometimes 2K).[/quote']

That is a good point, I have only been reading about this today. I think I might try and make a 1k version, and as well as that, I'm going to do another update for WATER incorporating the medium resolution as an installation option in the main file. :)

That would be much appreciated!

Secretly I also hope that there would be a "darker" version of your waves.. but I might just do that myself for my own setup.

Also going to try to just make a 1k version of your 4k version myself and see what happens. The worst that can happen is that I get a lot of pink mountains!

Done and done! :) Just got back home and quickly did both things at once, so I hope all is well.

If going to compare mountains and rocks should also include Vivid Landscapes Rocking Stones and Mountains Parallax in the compares. :)

... and Superior Rocks ... are Mountains Parallax ENB dependent? If so, then they aren't needed in this compare (unless there are non-ENB options)

EDIT: there are non-ENB versions ... we should be testing all Vivid Landscapes then.

I will be adding to this a lot more soon when I have the time, but it will just be customization options so no texture changes (so it's safe to test). It seems though that parallax disables the reflection map (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflection_mapping) which goes a little way to making the river rocks looks more water-y and look like the sky is casting over them. I'm not sure if parallax is worth it, and I do offer a deeper normal map like terrain bump. When I add mountain rocks colour options I will be including parallax for them.
