Realistic Sun for Climates of Tamriel and Vanilla by prod80

This is made by the same guy that did the Climates of Tamriel Weather Patch: https://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/39799/ It's a nice looking sun texture replacer that in my opinion, works better with ENB and is not as large or intense as Skyrim Sunglare v4. It also fixes the reddish sun color of Climates of Tamriel and comes with another plugin that corrects the size/intensity of the sun during snow weathers which is a vanilla issue.  This is more realistic to me than Skyrim Sunglare v4.

Would not go and say its more realistic' date=' but I use it because it looks nice. Also works well with Oyama´s sunsprites for ENB.

Good point. I just like the customization provided with it. It has an optional 'warm' color which is a bit redder but not as red as CoT default, and an optional sunGLARE which is a bit more intense. It was also way easier to get working with an ENB than skyrim sunglare v4.

Regardless, I'm not sure if I would recommend replacing Skyrim Sunglare v4 in the STEP Guide with this, however I think there should be a short section on the ENB page listing a few sun texture/glare choices and a notice explaining that if you're using a custom sun texture/glare, you're most likely going to have to tweak the enbseries.ini settings for it to match.

This mod looks so much better than the "Skyrim Sunglare v4" mod that isn't even available anymore.  The problem with the other one was the way the rays were in the "sunglare" file rather than part of the "sun" file.  This causes a very weird-looking sunset or sunrise, because center of the rays and all the rays would be visible while the sun was going behind the horizon/other objects.  It just did not look good at all at that time.  What this mod, "Realistic Sun and Sunglare", does is put the sun rays into the "sun" file and then puts a moderate centralized glow effect into the "sunglare" file.  It looks much more appropriate and looks good when the sun is behind objects or at the horizon.  For non-ENB and non-COT I recommend the "Realistic Sun and Sunglare - Vanilla Edition - Warm colors" option.  The warm color option makes the actual edges of the sun distinct from the rays around it, which overall makes the sun look the most realistic, especially at low horizon when it is usually the easiest to see the edges of the star.  When you look up directly at the sun, you can always see the actual edges of the star apart from the bright rays that emanate.  Obviously this is another planet, so their sun is not our sun (they have two moons afterall) so their sun doesn't have to be the same exact color as ours anyway, but using the warm colors version really makes sunsets and sunrises look awesome!

You linked the download. We need the actual page.

My intention was not to link the download or the page, but just copy and paste the text from the download page so that people could see what option I was referring to.  It just so happened that when I selected the text it was selecting the download link also.  The page to the mod is listed at the top of the topic.

My thoughts:
I don't care for this mod. The reason being is that it is a stretch from vanilla and I don't like how the rays move as the player moves. It's a cool effect, but more of a "looking through a lens" effect that breaks immersion for me. Procedural Sun from ENB is far better and hopefully we'll have some official lighting overhauls soon which will eliminate the need for a sun texture mod.

what about ENB's procedural sun.

I dont think there is a performance hit.

The downside is that I think you need to enable UseDefferedRendering.

The benefit of having ENB enable is the option of enabling the shadows.

It's an option for some but not all. Lets table discussion of Procedural Sun for later and just test this compare.

Yeah, SRB, I understand what you mean.  With the "warm" version, the actual body of the sun is very distinct from the rays coming out from it.  I agree with you, and think it would have been better if either the rays were brighter or the body of the sun was closer to the color/brightness of the rays.  Basically, there should be a distinct difference at the edge, but the brightness/color difference between the two parts should be more subtle than it currently is.  I wonder if the author would be willing to make another variation of his mod (especially if he's aware that it's to possibly get it into the STEP guide) - probably wouldn't be difficult for him to do.
